- VENGANCE
- Vengance is copyright 1990, by Steve Winkler
-
- Vengance is a game created with the Shoot 'Em Up Construction Kit by
- Avantage/Accolade. Everyone who loves a good arcade blast-fest should own
- SEUCK. Thanks to Accolade for releasing it. Let's have SEUCK II! Vertical
- scrolling and more colors would be a great place to start. Also more
- powerful drawing tools would be a great help. Hello? Accolade? Are you
- listening?
- This game was created for fun, not for profit. It is copyrighted
- freeware, meaning you may copy it as much as you wish, as long as you keep
- all the files together, including this DOCS file, and don't charge any money
- for it. This also means that you should contact me if you wish to use the
- graphic images associated with this game for any purpose other than their
- original intent. I assume no responsibility for anything that this software
- does or doesn't do to your computer system or your nervous system.
- This game was inspired in part by the SEUCK games "Stealth Master"
- by Stew Perkins, and "Desert Shield" by Jeff Parker. While the concept is
- the same, the execution is much different, and I hope you will give all three
- games a try.
-
- Situation: A certain war-loving middle eastern President is using
- his admittedly powerful army to invade and conquer surrounding nations at an
- alarming rate. This guy has more money than sense, and has built his war
- machine into a formidible force. Perhaps more alarming, he has begun to
- construct a Nuclear Weapon facility, due to be completed in two years.
-
- Mission: You have been chosen to attempt the impossible. You must fly
- deep into enemy territory, destroy as much of the land and sea-based defense
- system as possible, and blow up the Nuclear Weapons plant. You have three
- things in your favor:
- 1.) All long-range defensive missle systems have been effectively
- jammed. Therefore, the missle and antiaircraft gun crews won't start
- shooting until they see you. When they do, they will unleash everything
- they have.
- 2.) Your F-16 Fighting Falcon has been equipped with a potent new type
- of dehydrated! missle. Just add a drop of water, and the tiny things sprout
- into full blown air-to-air and air-to-ground missles. As a result, you can
- carry an almost unlimited supply of them... manufactured by the Acme weapons
- company, located somewhere in the Arizona desert.
- 3.) This is only a game, so you get five chances. Gain 10,000 points,
- and you will be rewarded with another life.
- 4.) There is no fourth thing.
-
- Hints:
-
- Don't be too timid. I learned this from watching a seven year old play
- the game, so you could say this tip comes from an expert. Your first
- inclination will be to hug the bottom of the screen. This is not always the
- wise choice. Look for "alleys" and "escape routes" in between the gunfire.
- You can't shoot everything on the screen, and you probably shouldn't try.
- For instance, the small, fast moving gunboats are heavily armored, and
- impervious to your rockets. You can, however, easily avoid their guns by
- flying BETWEEN the shells. Try this on the battleships or subs, and you are
- done for. Nearly everything that moves or fires a weapon can be vaporized,
- but some things take more shots than others. Also, be VERY careful around
- the big revolving turret guns. They fire randomly, and are deadly.
- Don't give up too easily. I HAVE made it completely through the game
- without cheating, but then again, I designed it. However, if you can survive
- long enough to get to the military bases, you can rack up points quickly by
- blowing the living **** out of barracks, buildings, pipelines, refineries,
- and the occasional truck. GOOD LUCK!
-
- I would also like to add that this game was created in the spirit of
- fun, and not as an endorsement of military action anywhere in the world. I
- sincerely hope that the scenario portrayed in this game never comes to pass,
- as real soldiers get only one life. Maybe if certain world leaders played
- more games like this, they could work out their aggressive impulses in a
- less harmful way.
-
- If you like this game, or even if you think it SUECKs, PLEASE send
- me some feedback on it. If you are a developer, offer me a job!
