  2. DOCUMENTATION FOR SCUD_BUSTER V.8 C/1991 HOWARD DORTCH

  4. THE STARTUP SCREEN - This screen will allow playing the computer
  5. or play against a friend (or enemy) using the modem. This demo
  6. version of the program will not allow use of the modem. When you
  7. register you will be sent the full working version. Select START
  8. to get to the battlefield. Select QUIT to quit the game.
  9. BATTLE is one game the highest score at the end is the winner.
  10. WAR a war will be 7 battles, The army with the highest score will
  11. be declared the winner.
  12.  
  13. THE BATTLEFIELD - The battlefield screen is a Pseudo 3-D view
  14. of a battlefield, The enemy is at the top far away and you are at
  15. the bottom. The DEPLOY EQUIPMENT window has your equipment. From
  16. left to right SURFACE TO SURFACE MISSLES (3)- SURFACE TO AIR
  17. MISSLE (1) - RADAR (1) - COMMAND AND CONTROL (1)

  19. DEPLOY EQUIPMENT  - Use the mouse to select a piece by placing the
  20. crosshair over the piece you want to move then click the left mouse
  21. button. The piece will disappear. Move the crosshair to where you
  22. want to place the piece and click the left button of the mouse. You
  23. won't be able to place the pieces outside of the playfield,and you
  24. won't be able to place the piece too close to another piece.

  26. START THE GAME - When the last piece is on the play field the game
  27. has begun, so be ready!

  29. LAUNCHING SURFACE TO SURFACE MISSLES - Select the missle by using
  30. the F1,F2,F3 keys.(F1=missle1,F2=missle2,F3=missle3) Then place the
  31. crosshair in the enemy battlefield and press the left mouse button
  32. to launch the missle. If you have the crosshair in the blue sky, the
  33. missle will fall to the ground below that point. When the missle is
  34. launched it will fly out of view at the top of the screen,then a few
  35. seconds later you will see a small warhead fall over the enemy
  36. battlefield. Your enemy has SURFACE TO AIR missles and he may shoot
  37. your missle down. If you see your missle explode in the air you will
  38. know he got it with his missle.
  39.  
  40. LAUNCHING SURFACE TO AIR MISSLE - Select the SAM by pressing the
  41. SPACE BAR then select the target using the crosshair, and press the
  42. left mouse button. NOTE - the SAM will not launch below the enemy's
  43. front line. You will have to lead your target a little to hit it.
  44. As an option the ESC key is assigned to select the SAM missle.
  45. Your RADAR unit helps you aim the missle. If your enemy destroys
  46. your RADAR unit you will have to aim a little better to hit your
  47. target. NOTE should your SAM launcher get destroyed, it will be
  48. repaired after a period of time, or you can elect to convert one
  49. of your other launchers to a SAM site using the 1,2,3 keys on the
  50. keypad. Press 1 on the keypad to replace launcher 1 with a SAM.
  51. Strategy is important here. It's up to you.

  53. YOUR AWACS - The panel in the lower left is your AWACS. The sections
  54. will turn orange when your enemy launches a missle. The sections
  55. represent a map of your enemy's battlefield. If the pannel in the
  56. upper left turns orange,your enemy launched a missle from the back
  57. left side of the battlefield. When you launch a missle at the enemy
  58. you may notice one of the AWACS panels turn orange then grey,like a
  59. flash. This indicates he launched his SURFACE TO AIR missle to shoot
  60. your missle down. To get a more precise location of the enemy launch
  61. sites, use the F4 key to send your plane over his battlefield. When
  62. he launches a missle a small orange dot appears to let you see his
  63. launch sites. CAUTION CAUTION!!! if you leave your AWACS over his
  64. battlefield too long he will shoot it down!!!!!!!. Use the F5 key
  65. to bring your AWACS back to a safe distance. The only time you dont
  66. have to worry about getting shot down is if you destroy his SURFACE
  67. TO AIR launcher. See the section STATUS to find out what he has
  68. activated. Should your AWACS get destroyed, be patient it will be
  69. repaired after a period of time.

  71. ENEMY AWACS - During the battle you will see an airplane in the sky
  72. to the left or the right. This is your enemy AWACS. If you are launching
  73. a SURFACE TO SURFACE missle when this AWACS plane is in view,your
  74. enemy will have the location of the missle you launch, he will come
  75. after it,so be ready he doesn't miss!!! Use your SURFACE TO AIR
  76. MISSLE to shoot down his AWACS.

  78. RADAR - The RADAR panel in the bottom center will show you an orange
  79. bar after the enemy launches a missle. This bar is in a relative
  80. position to where the inbound missle is going to come down. If the
  81. bar is on the left side of the pannel then the missle will come down
  82. on the left side of the battlefield. If an enemy missle hits your
  83. RADAR truck the radar glass will shatter and you will lose inbound
  84. reports,and your SURFACE TO AIR missle will be less accurate.

  86. STATUS - This pannel lets you know what your enemy has active.
  87. When your missles hit one of his pieces of equipment the piece that
  88. you hit will be removed from the status window.
  89.  
  90. NOTE ON THE MISSLES - The SURFACE TO AIR missles can't hit anything
  91. in your enemy's battlefield. The SURFACE TO SURFACE missle can't
  92. be used to hit an enemy inbound missle. DON'T GET CONFUSED!!!

  94. ENDING THE BATTLE - Your COMMAND AND CONTROL HEADQUARTERS is what
  95. you are trying to protect! If an enemy missle hits it the battle
  96. is over!! Also if you lose all your SURFACE TO SURFACE missles, the
  97. battle is over!! At the end a message will appear to let you know
  98. if you WIN or LOSE,then you will go to the startup screen to see
  99. your score.

  102. NOTES ON YOUR ENEMY - HINTS
  103.  
  104. 1. The kill ratio on his SAM is about 75%. If you destroy his
  105.    RADAR unit this falls to 50%.
  106.  
  107. 2. You destroy his SAM site and he can't shoot at your AWACS. When
  108.    you see you have destroyed his sam hit the F4 key to get your
  109.    AWACS down range.
  110.  
  111. 3. Take a defensive posture at first. Concentrate on shooting the
  112.    inbound missles. Try to get a shot at his AWACS plane. After you
  113.    see his AWACS fly by then launch your SURFACE TO SURFACE MISSLES.
  114.  
  115. 4. You shoot down his AWACS plane and he can't detect your launch
  116.    sites, so launch at will.
  117.  
  118. 5. Use your AWACS for short periods of time just to see one launch
  119.    site then concentrate on it.
  120.  
  121. 6. Try to get his SURFACE TO AIR MISSLE first, then you can concentrate
  122.    on his launch sites.
