  1.                "SynthSong" - MED v.3.00 song and player-program
  2.                ------------------------------------------------

  4.       This song comes from my "Art of MED" disk, and was composed to show the
  5.   sorts of extremes that sequenced songs can go to in terms of overall-length
  6.   and diversity of musical-themes - while still maintaining a reasonable size
  7.   on disk. By using this song as a yard-stick (as it uses the maximum number
  8.   and size of blocks that MED can presently handle), people should be able to
  9.   get a better idea of the limits of this program within a more restrictive
  10.   framework.

  12.       As something of a musical-milestone - at almost 65 minutes in duration,
  13.   this is possibly the longest musical-work ever to appear on the Amiga - I'd
  14.   encourage readers/listeners to find their own uses for the piece (as with
  15.   all MED-songs, it multitasks quite well with other Workbench, CLI-driven or
  16.   programmed projects).

  18.       MED automatically compresses the size of its "song+samples" files when
  19.   saving them, so that the on-disk size of "Synth" is around 63k - MEDPlayer
  20.   (whose icon has been removed from this drawer) takes-up another 18k. Once
  21.   loaded into memory, the song and player-program proceed to take-up a total
  22.   of around 200k - songs composed in other formats e.g. SoundTracker must be
  23.   compressed (and de-compressed) by some separate method.

  25.       The "Synth" song is activated by double-clicking its icon - this then
  26.   activates the MEDPlayer, which has its own play-functions:

  28.   - "Play" plays the song from the beginning (though any song which activates
  29.     the player-program starts automatically);
  30.   - "Stop" pauses the song at the particular stage that it is up to;
  31.   - "Cont" continues a song that has been paused at a particular stage;
  32.   - The "MIDI" button should not be pressed while a non-MIDI song is being
  33.     played, as this intereferes with the playing-routine.

  35.       I've left the "Synth" song "as-is" (i.e. not presented it in any other
  36.   type of format), so that it can be put to other use if necessary - such as
  37.   being activated by other player-programs e.g. "Mod Pro", or saved in other
  38.   formats - though it should be noted that the song is far too large to save
  39.   as a "SoundTracker" module.
