Home Manager 1.0 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Designed and Written by Linda "Machine" Lullie 1st release August 1991 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Home Manager is a productivity program written to encompass many areas of managing your home. It includes six individual applications accessible through a main screen or from each other. The Contacts Manager is a standard phone and address book. The Numbers Manager is a simple calculator. The CashFlow Manager is a budget/balance sheet. The Dates & ToDo is a calendar utility. The Food Manager is a grocery list builder. The Plastic Money Manager is credit card database. Home Manager also provides a button for launching an external program of the users choice. Future releases will include two additional applications for which space has already been provided. HOME MANAGER IS SHAREWARE!! It is freely distributable, provided all documentation and author's notices are left intact. Should you decide you like the program, please register by sending a check for $15 to me, the author, at the following address: Linda Lullie 10701 SouthWest 10th Court Davie, Florida 33324 Your registration includes subsequent years for the Dates & ToDo portion (1992 & 1993), full printed documentation, all updates and bug fixes, the two new applications being developed now which use the Home Manager interface. I will also send you the latest FoodProcessor program, in unregistered form. FoodProcessor is an extended grocery list designer with an interactive recipe database (only active in the registered version). Registration for FoodProcessor is $10. The following documentation is written as clearly and concisely as I know how. If you are like me, you would rather use the program than read about it. I have tried to break it down so the docs can be used as a quick reference guide rather than a How-To book. I hope you enjoy the program. I use it now to keep track of things around the house. I would appreciate any feedback on bugs or problems, ideas or questions. Either write to me at the above address or leave mail on GEnie to my husband and Beta Tester, J. Lullie, and he will forward it to me. Thanks for trying Home Manager, and I hope you find it useful. Linda Lullie ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Requirements Amiga 500, 1000, 2000 or 3000 with at least 1 meg Ram AmigaDOS 1.3 or 2.0 Floppy Drive, hard drive recommended Installation Home Manager can be placed in any directory on your hard drive, or can be run from a floppy. The directories: Text and Brushes, must be in the current directory with the application. And all the files in these directories must be copied as well. The DeckRunner must be in your Sys:c directory. The two supplied fonts, Pearl and Granite should be in your fonts directory. Starting Up Start Home Manager by simply double clicking its icon. You will be brought to the opening screen. Icons (buttons) located on the right side open each application in the program with one click. The house and the file cabinet icons are not implemented in this release. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Contacts Manager Clicking on the phone book icon will take you to the Contacts Manager, an address and phone book database. The default data file, Phone.def, is loaded automatically provided you copied the entire contents of the Text folder to the current directory. Sort Clicking once on the Sort button alphabetizes by first name the entries listed in the window on the left of the screen. Search Clicking once on the Search button will clear the Name field and prompt you for a name to search for. If the name is in the database, it will be displayed in the fields on the right. You are then asked if you want to search again. A simple Y or N on the keyboard will answer this prompt. If the name is not in the database, nothing will happen. Print Click once on the Print button and the program will ask you if you want to print names and phone numbers only, Y or N. Answer Y, and the names and phone numbers of all the entries will be printed. Answer N, and the names, phone numbers, addresses and memos will be printed for each of the entries. You must answer this prompt to continue. The print button works only if you have the type command in your Sys:c directory. List Window Double click on any of the names in this window and its entry will be loaded into the fields on the right side of the screen. Data Fields Each field on the right side of the screen is used for data input and display. The default display reads Name, Home Phone, Business Phone, Street, City, State, Zip and Notes (two lines). When adding a new entry, hit the return key in a field to place the cursor in the next field but not clear it. Any field can be cleared using the Right-Amiga-X keyboard command. Add Entry Click once on the Add Entry button to add a new entry. The name field will clear and you can type in the information field by field, hitting return as you go. Save Entry Click once on the Save Entry button to save the entry currently loaded. The entry will be saved with the name in the name field and appear sorted in the list window. Be careful not to edit the wrong name and then click save. It will overwrite the previous entry. You must save for an entry to be listed and for it to print. Clear Fields Click once on Clear Fields button to clear the information in the fields and set it to the defaults. If you have not saved your current entry, it will be lost. Delete Entry Double click on a name to load it. Then click once on the Delete Entry button. The entry will be deleted. Once you delete an entry you cannot get it back. GoTo Icons The icons along the bottom of the screen represent the different applications in Home Manager. Click once on any of the buttons to go to that program. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Number Manager Clicking once on the calculator icon in any window opens the calculator. Simple math functions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, can be performed by clicking on the keys on the screen or through the numeric keypad. The calculator is capable of one function at a time. The open parenthesis on the keypad acts as the clear button. GoTo Icons The icons along the bottom of the screen represent the different applications in Home Manager. Click once on any of the buttons to go to that program. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CashFlow Manager Click once on the money bag icon in any window and the CashFlow manager opens, a monthly budget/balance sheet program. The fields on the left are all your debits or cash spent; on the left are your credits or cash received. The month field is active and ready for input when the program opens. NO DECIMALS, all numbers must be rounded off to the nearest dollar. Left-Amiga-C will clear all the fields. Load Click once on the Load button and a file requester appears asking you which file to load. You can load any month you have previously saved. The file will automatically be flowed into the corresponding fields for each entry, provided you did not alter the style of the saved file. Save Click once on the Save button and the file will be saved to the Text folder in the current directory with the filename BudgetMonthYear. Month and Year come from the date you enter in the corresponding fields. Be sure there are no extra spaces in your month and year fields as the filename is taken directly from there. Print Click once on the Print button and the information you have entered will be printed to your printer provided you have the type command in your Sys:c directory. Month and Year fields Enter the month you are calculating, ie. July. Hit return, the year field becomes active, enter the year, ie. 1991. Hit return, the Mortgage field becomes active. Debits and Credits fields Each field calls for a numeric amount to be entered. You must first delete the zero in each or use it in your entry; if not, you will have an extra zero in each. Hitting return in a field will take you to the next field. You can also activate a field by clicking inside it. Compile Buttons When you have entered all your data for debits, click once on the compile button. It will add all the entries and display the sum in the Total field. Same with credits. Compile Totals When you have compiled both the debits and the credits, click once on the Compile Totals button. Click once on a date and that date will be displayed in the window below the calendar. Data window Here is where you will enter all your events for a certain date. The day is automatically entered when you click a date on the calendar. Simply type in your data. Load Click once on the Load button and a file requester will appear asking you which day to load into the window. You can also load any text file, so if you have kept other records in ASCII format you may load them in rather than retype them. Save Click once on the Save button to save the data presently being displayed in the window. It will save with the filename "ApptYear.Month.Date" of the last calendar button you clicked on. All files saved are automatically sent to the Text folder in the current directory. Once saved and left in that folder, the info will come up every time you click on that date. Print Click once on the Print button and the contents of the window will be sent to your printer provided you have the type command in your Sys:c directory. GoTo Icons Dates & ToDo will only allow you to go back to the Main Menu or to Quit. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Food Manager Clicking once on the grocery bag icon in any window opens the grocery list program. Print Click once on the Print button and the list you have written in the My List window will be printed provided you have the type command in your Sys:c directory. Select Item window When the program opens, the Select Item window lists a preset grocery list to choose from. You can edit this list, it came with the program in the Text folder under the name Groceries. Be sure you leave the file in single column ASCII format with the same filename or an error will occur next time you launch Food Manager. Double click on an item in the Select Item window and it will be copied to the My List window for you. My List window This is where your list is written. The default file, Plastic.def, must be in the Text folder in the current directory or an error will occur. Do not alter the format of this file. Plastic Money Manager allows you to track four major credit cards and four miscellaneous cards in a graphic interface. Save Click once on the Save button and the data you have entered will be saved to the Plastic.def file in the Text folder. Be Careful! If you are working on the Major Credit cards you must save BEFORE you switch to the Other Credit cards in order to save that data. Same thing goes for when you are working on the Other cards, you must first save before going into the Major card screen in you want to save you data there. Click once on any of the buttons to go to that program. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ General Notes The Main Menu and the Quit button appear on every program. Clicking once on the Main Menu button brings you back to the opening screen. Clicking once on the Quit button will quit Home Manager. Of course, the icon for the program you are in will do nothing if you click on it. It is important that all text and brush files are not altered in any way or the program may not function properly. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Upcoming Additions In a later release the last two icons, house and file cabinet, will be programmed. In a later release the calendar will display which dates have events in the month loaded. In a later release the user defined button will be saved to a preference file and reloaded every time. And there will be two more user defined buttons. I would also appreciate any feedback on new features!
