  12. HamLab is an interactive program which converts images from various file
  13. formats to Amiga HAM and SHAM mode pictures. The pictures can be displayed
  14. (and panned on a "virtual screen" if necessary) and saved in IFF format.
  15.  
  16. Translation filters are provided for GIF, TIFF, Atari ST Spectrum 512, MTV,
  17. QRT/DKBTrace, PBMPLUS, and Sun Raster files.  New filters can be added
  18. simply by adding a line to a configuration file.
  19.  
  20. HamLab uses 24-bit RGB for nearly all intermediate calculations.  It has
  21. fast scaling, cropping, and color response controls, and includes six
  22. dithering options which significantly improve the quality of some images.

  24. Runs under either AmigaDOS 2.0 or 1.3 + ARP.  For use in tight memory
  25. situations, the PIPE: device (included with AmigaDOS) is recommended.

  27. For the best response time, it helps to have a lot of memory and/or a hard
  28. disk, but HamLab has configurable options which make it usable on small
  29. systems, too.  It is possible to convert, but not display at the same time,
  30. most 640x480 images on a 1 MEG system at full size, or to scale them to
  31. 320x400 and display them, too.  (All without using disk files for temporary
  32. storage.)

  36. This archive is a demo version.  Unlike some demos, I wanted this one to
  37. be somewhat useful. The only "crippled" feature is that images larger than
  38. 512 pixels wide or tall will be cut off.  Otherwise, all features including
  39. save are fully implemented.
