  16.                    STANDARD README
  17.  
  18.  *    Seasoned AmigaUUCP users should refer to VERSION.DOC for a list of
  19.     fixes and additions.

  21.  *    After you glance at the rest of this document refer to the
  22.     file "QuickSetup.DOC".  Seasoned UUCP users may want to
  23.     glance at QuickSetup.DOC but spend the majority of their
  24.     time on SlowSetup.DOC

  26.  *    UUCP should be tested via QuickSetup.DOC by inexperienced
  27.     UUCP users before attempting a real installation.
  28.  
  29.  *    The first floppy is bootable (note: distributions on networks
  30.     do not include commodore 1.3 system executables).  The boot
  31.     sequence sets up the appropriate directories and assigns and
  32.     runs two programs (Getty and DCron) in the background before
  33.     giving you a standard CLI prompt.

  35.     The second floppy contains additional executables, manual pages,
  36.     and the source code.
  37.  
  38.  *    AVAILABILITY OF CNEWS.    UUCP 1.08D and beyond comes with a
  39.     relatively limited news forwarder and batcher.    It should work for
  40.     most peoples purposes and does have both upstream and downstream
  41.     batching/collection capability.  If, however, you want to run the
  42.     more sophisticated CNEWS system you can obtain the CNEWS stuff

  52.     CNEWS TAKES UP 2 FLOPPIES, when requesting CNEWS from Larry, please
  53.     include $10 for his trouble (he will supply the disks). This is
  54.     similar to my own policy.  Note that the software itself is free
  55.     and can be found on BBSs, BIX, and elsewhere, but requesting it
  56.     from us directly is really a service that we are not set up to
  57.     handle efficiently, and interrupts other work, thus the $10.
  58.  
  59.     The CNEWS distribution, like the AmigaUUCP distribution, is too
  60.     large to send via email.

  109.     This code was originally based on months of work on William P.
  110.     Loftus's Amiga UUCP 0.40 release with news code from his 0.60
  111.     release. The version number is shown at the top of this file.
  112.     x.xxD refers to versions originated by myself and have nothing to
  113.     do with WPL's version numbering.
  114.  
  115.     Version numbers are of the form:    m.rrD.ss    Where m.rrD is
  116.     common to all executables and .ss is the individual revision number
  117.     associated with a particular executable and embedded in it. The
  118.     UIDENT command run on an executable will reveal its full version
  119.     id.

  123.     This distribution is freely redistributable as long as all files and
  124.     directory structures, except the 'system' directory which contains
  125.     commodore-amiga executables, remain intact.  Redistributions
