- Soft-Span provides a system for transferring files to and from the system.
-
- To upload a file to the BBS, enter UL at the main menu. You will be prompted:
- Name of file>
- Enter an appropriate file name for you upload. If you enterred an invalid
- name or if the name already exists in the upload directory, you will have to
- enter a different name. Next, you will be asked for a brief description of
- your file. Enter up to 50 characters as an appropriate summary of the purpose
- of the file. Finally, enter the computer type(s) with which the file will
- work. For text files, you will probably enter ALL or ANY. Finally, you
- will see the following:
-
- Begin file transfer now
- ^X to abort
-
- Enter your terminal's upload mode or press CTRL-X to abort the file transfer.
- Once the upload is complete, you will be credited with file credits that are
- a predetermined multiple of the size of your uploaded file.
-
- To download files, you must first select a download directory. To see a list
- of the download directories to which you have access, enter DIR at the main
- menu. Now, select one of those directories by name. There are several ways
- to do this. For instance, if AMIGA is the name of a directory, the following
- commands would select AMIGA as the current directory:
-
- CD AMIGA
- GO !AMIGA
- GO! AMIGA
- !AMIGA
-
- With, CD or GO!, you simply supply the name of the directory. If you use GO (as
- opposed to GO!), you must use the exclamation point to indicate that AMIGA
- is a directory and not a message base. Finally, you can also simply enter
- the directory name at the main prompt. However, you must prefix it by an
- exclamation point. In addition, you need only enter as many letters of the
- name that are necessary to identify the base. For example, the following would
- also work:
-
- CD AMI
- !AM
-
- Once a directory is selected, use the LIST command to see the available files.
- If you enter LIST by itself you will be asked to enter a search pattern or
- '#' for new files. If you want a complete list, just hit return here. You
- can also enter a pattern of letters to search. If you choose a search pattern,
- only the files whose names contain those letters will be displayed. Choosing
- the '#' option will cause only new files since your last call to be displayed.
- All of these options can be chosen directly from the main menu. Enterring
- LIST <PATTERN> will search for the pattern specified. LIST -A or LIST *
- will list all files, and LIST -N or LIST # will cause only new files to be
- displayed.
-
- Once you have picked out a file to download, enter DL. You will be prompted
- to enter the name of the file you wish to download. You can also specify
- the file name on the command line: DL <FILENAME>
- In addition, you will need to have enough file credits to cover the size of
- the file you wish to download. You can obtain these credits by uploading
- to the BBS. Once you have downloaded the file, you will be debitted for the
- appropriate number of download credits.
