  1. This file contains the history of MED:

  3. The history of MED began, when I got DOC SoundTracker VI in 1989.
  4. I found that it was really easy to compose with it, but the program
  5. itself was terrible: No multitasking, no Kickstart 1.3, no way to
  6. exit, no keyboard equivalents...
  7. Later I got SoundTracker 2.4, but it still doesn't multitask...

  9. Then I began creating MED V1.00. It was never released.
  10. When it was finished in summer 1989, I immediately started to add
  11. bitmapped graphics etc.

  13. In Autumn 1989 MED V1.11 completed. I gave it only to Erkki Hannila.
  14. I hope he hasn't spread it, because it contained few bugs...

  16. I fixed these bugs in MED V1.12. This is the first released version.
  17. It contained some mysterious bugs that crashed the machine sometimes...
  18. I never found them, but they are probably gone now.

  20. This version V2.00 is the second released version. When I started
  21. programming it, I thought it'll be V1.20. But finally the improvement-list
  22. grew so large that I decided it must be V2.00!! And here's the the list of
  23. the new features/fixes:
  24.     - Nearly completely rewritten code
  25.     - New player routine made with assembler
  26.     - Fast screen rendering routines also made with assembler
  27.     - New user interface with file requester
  28.     - MIDI support and up to 16 tracks
  29.     - Extended keyboard, lots of new keyboard equivalents
  30.     - Two equalizers (yes, imitating SoundTracker...)
  31.     - Insert/delete to playing sequence list
  32.     - Insert/delete blocks
  33.     - Cut/Copy/Paste rectangular regions
  34.     - Transposing and expanding/shrinking blocks
  35.     - SoundTracker module load support
  36.     - SoundTracker song saving
  37.     - Can write icon with song
  38.     - "MOD" save (song + samples)
  39.     - Writes object files for your own programs
  40.     - Song packing
  41.     - More octaves (5)
  42.     - Supports IFF 3- and 5-octave instruments
  43.     - New commands (filter on/off, note off, stop playing, repeat note)
  44.     - Repeat with beginning offset 0 works
  45.     - "Quick note" feature
  46.     - Insert effects when entering notes with Left or Right Alt
  47.     - An option to turn off automatic advancing to next line
  48.     - And maybe something else I've forgotten to put here...
