  1. The font in this archive is shareware: please read the notice below, which
  2. is from the author.  It was originally intended for the Mac, and has been
  3. converted for use on the Amiga.  The changes were:
  4.  
  5.  Read the original mac files into the Amiga using mac-2-dos
  6.  Convert the bitmap fonts using "mAFont"
  7.  Convert the mac postscript font file to Amiga ascii format (using "mAText")
  8.  Convert the mac ascii readme file to Amiga ascii format (using "mAText")
  9.  
  10. You should be able to use them with any PostScript interpreter.  To use
  11. them with "Post" (V0.2) make a directory "PSFonts:" - if you do not have one
  12. already.  Then copy the file "Gordon" to it, preserving case.
  13. If you use the file "init.ps" as supplied you will then be able to use
  14. findfont to automatically download them.

  16. To use the amiga format bitmap fonts uncompress the file "Gordo.bmap.lzh"
  17. into your FONTS: directory using "lharc -x x Gordo.bmap.lzh"

  29. The fee for this typeface is $15 as is, check or money order(preferred).
  30. Or send $20 and a disk and a list of the sizes of the bitmaps you would
  31. like to have and I will try to oblige (within reason...like, don't ask
  32. for 127 point,etc...).  Also, I can include (and probably will anyway)
  33. varying spaces to help you set your own type.  I like very close spacing,
  34. but if you like to spread out your type, then this will be available from
  35. within the font itself.  This capability will be for those people who don't
  36. have all the fancy new software that will do manual kerning, etc. (available
  37. only to registered owners). [proposed spacing - units based on selected
  38. point size - 1,1/2,1/4,1/8,1/16,1/32,1/64 and maybe smaller]

  42. Previously, I had become very discouraged by distributing my work on CompuServe.
  43.  A couple of bad experiences made it difficult for me to
  44. continue.  However, recently I have received some recognition (Thank you
  45. Richard Eckhardt), and it has made me rethink my position.
  46.  
  47. The economy is bad in Louisiana and I am not doing well.  You may have
  48. noticed the address change.  I cannot afford the time on CompuServe except
  49. for uploading.  Also, my troubles are your gain for neither can I afford
  50. to do any other kind of marketing for my work other than ShareWare (they
  51. would cost at least twice as much or more).  And just having me "sit on
  52. these faces" (pun intended) is not doing any good for myself or anyone
  53. else.

  55. My first uploads to CompuServe were rather primitive attempts.  I think
  56.  
  57. now you will find that I am capable of good - excellent quality alter-
  58. natives to the "higher priced spreads".
  59.  
  60. I will assume you know what to do with this typeface.
  61.    (use Font/DA Mover 3.2 or higher, don't let Font/DA Mover change the
  62.     font id, etc...)

  64. collect)
  65.             .........if you can't call, write (like I said, I can't afford
  66. CIS)

  68. There is only one size bitmap with this typeface (I'm trying to keep my
  69. long distance and your download charges to a minimum).  And there is a
  70. good chance
  71. that it is not very clean (some of them are however, and even print fairly
  72. well on ImageWriter - besides, LaserWriter doesn't care what the bitmaps
  73. look like - you can use geneva first, then switch to this face before printing).
  74.  It will however, automatically download to any PostScript Device i.e.
  75. LaserWriter, Linotronic, or any of the new PostScript printers that are
  76. accessed by AppleTalk.  (Versions of this typeface can be prepared for
  77. manual downloading as a text only file for non-Macintosh computers if the
  78. need should arise.)

  80. If you should happen to investigate any of the other typefaces I've uploaded
  81. you will probably discover that this is a form letter tacked on to every
  82. one
  83. of them.  You can skip reading the others, however, the ShareWare fee remains.

  90. P.S. If you are curious as to what happened to Calligraphic, I had to shelve
  91. it.  It doesn't work with the newer LaserWriter software.  The new Fontographer
  92. software was supposed to fix the problems.  The recompiled Calligraphic
  93. worked with the new LW software but the decorative letters don't print
  94. properly (they turn out with black letters on the background, and they
  95. are supposed to be white - I haven't been able to fix it - maybe with the
  96. next release of Fontographer).  Furthermore, it would only work if ZapfChancery
  97. was available, which leaves out regular LW users.

  100. Special note on Gordon
  101.  
  102. All the letters and some of the characters are here.  But this one is incomplete. 
  103.  No numbers and a lot of the special characters are missing.
  104. Temporarily and inadequately substituted are Helvetica characters.  
  105. I hope to have this finished soon.  There is enough for most typing purposes. 
  106.  It is mostly intended as a headline or accent typeface (fashioned after 
  107. the Gordon's Jewelers logo - which, by the way is in this font - I built 
  108. this face around it when I was preparing a letterhead for my brother, who 
  109. works at Gordon's)
