  5. HeadClean is a Shareware program and may be freely redistributed
  6. for non-commercial purposes.  
  7.  
  8. The heads on your floppy disk drives are just like the magnetic
  9. heads on your VCR or audio tape deck.  They can accumulate
  10. oxides and grime that interfere with reading and writing disks.
  11. If you are getting unexplainable errors when reading or writing
  12. to floppy disks you may have dirty heads.  
  13.  
  14. Many people clean their heads every month.  How often you clean
  15. your heads depends on many things: how often you use your
  16. drives, whether you smoke near your computer, what you smoke,
  17. what kind of disks you use, humidity, etc.  
  18.  
  19. HeadClean V2.0 is designed to work with the fibre cleaning disks
  20. available from Radio Shack and other stores.  It "wipes" the
  21. heads of your disk drive on several cylinders of this fibre disk
  22. by attempting to format it.  It also keeps track of which
  23. cylinders have been used.  Without this program, Amiga DOS will
  24. attempt to read the fibre disk and immediately fail before
  25. giving the heads the good 20 second cleaning which they need.

  27. If you don't have a fibre cleaning disk and just want to see how
  28. this program works, you can substitute an UNformatted disk for
  29. the fibre disk.  You will be able to pretend you are cleaning
  30. one drive.  It will NOT really clean anything.  If you
  31. accidentally put a formatted disk in the drive it will detect
  32. this and not use it.  This feature protects you from destroying
  33. data on working disks.

  35. For instructions on how to use HeadClean V2.0, run it.  Then
  36. click on the "Help" gadget.  It is safe to do this even without
  37. the fibre disk.
