- To run TeX, you must:
-
- assign tex: df1:tex
-
- TeX can then be invoked by:
-
- tex:tex
-
- and the previewer by:
-
- run tex:preview
-
- TeX on the Amiga works exactly as described in the TeXbook by Don Knuth.
- If you are unfamiliar with TeX, I urge you to run to your local college
- bookstore and purchase a copy.
-
- The previewer is fairly easy to use. The following keyboard commands
- are available in addition to the gadget and menu selections:
-
- f[name] -- open a particular file for previewing (no extension)
- p[n] -- goto to a particular page
- space, right arrow -- go forward a page
- backspace, delete, left arrow -- go back a page
- up arrow -- go up on the page
- down arrow -- go down on the page
- q -- quit
- s -- toggle zoom/unzoom sizes
-
- The limitations that make this a demo version are: TeX will only process
- small files, and it runs out of memory rather quickly. The previewer will
- quit after ten pages. Only a small number of fonts are provided.
-
- The full version of AmigaTeX comes on eight floppies, and will handle
- larger documents than most mainframe versions of \TeX, if your Amiga has
- at least 768K of RAM. On a 512K system, you should be able to run most of
- your documents. On the eight distribution floppies you will find
-
- A new, smaller and faster \TeX, version 2.1
- LaTeX 2.09
- BibTeX
- IniTeX
- Full source to the AmigaTeX manual
- A font caching scheme to handle the
- 1200 previewer font files
- A previewer which opens on the workbench screen
- Keystroke commands for the previewer
- Font conversion utilities gftopk, pxtopk, and pktype
-
- You will also find a new, expanded, 80-page manual, with a large set of
- font samples. All of this comes attractively packaged in a three-ring
- binder. To get it, send $200 to Norman Naugle, n^2 Computer Consultants,
- College Station, TX 77841.
-
- The AmigaTeX package does not come with any printer drivers. Printer
- drivers are being developed, and are currently available for the QMS-KISS,
- QMS-SmartWriter, Epson MX-80 and compatibles, Okimate-20, and Citizen
- 150-D. More drivers are being developed, including a PostScript driver.
- These drivers are available at $100 each from the above address.
-
- Please address any comments, suggestions, or complaints to Tomas Rokicki,
- Box 2081, Stanford, CA 94305. Thanks!
