- PRINTERTEST
-
- USAGE:
- PRINTERTEST
-
- PURPOSE:
- To test a printer
-
- SPECIFICATION:
- The PRINTERTEST program is used to test the capabilities and
- features of printers used with the AMIGA system. When run,
- three custom screens are created: a low-resolution Hold and Modify
- screen, a low-resolution interlaced color test screen, and a high-
- resolution prompt screen. The first two screens are used in the
- Black and White Test and the the Color Test (see below). The third
- is used to communicate with the PRINTERTEST program.
-
- Various prompts instruct the user how to proceed. Initially, PRINTERTEST
- requests the name of the printer which will be tested. One by one the
- printers listed in Preferences are displayed, beginning with the printer
- selected in Preferences. The correct printer is chosen by y (YES), n (NO)
- otherwise.
-
- The printer selected is made to perform various commands and functions
- as follows:
-
- Alpha Test
- This test is designed to test how the printer will
- react to various Printer Device Command Functions (see
- the Printer Device chapter in the AMIGA ROM Kernel Manual:
- Libraries and Devices). These functions include type
- styles and sizes, colors, superscripts and subscripts,
- justification, etc.
-
- Reset Test
- After the Alpha Test has completed the program requests
- the user to hit any key to begin the Reset Test. This
- test checks the reset command function.
-
- Black & White Test
- If the printer has graphics capability a Black & White Test
- is performed. This test will do a black and white dump of
- the custom Hold and Modify PRINTERTEST screen and
- demonstrates the printer's ability to print grey-scale
- graphics.
-
- Color Test
- If the printer has color capability in addition to graphics
- then the Color Test is run. It dumps PRINTERTEST's color-
- pattern screen. Comparing the screen colors to the printed
- ones helps to show the printers color capability.
