  2.      Notes on the Amiga version of Zoo. (2.00)

  4.          Please see  the file  changes which should have been included with
  5.      this distribution for a list of the changes from the  previous version
  6.      of AmigaZoo.
  7.  
  8.          AmigaZoo supports  full-length AmigaDOS  filenames and can archive
  9.      and restore a directory structure.
  10.  
  11.          Note, for adding comments to an archive, the Amiga's eof character
  12.      is a control \.
  13.  
  14.          Thanks to some suggestions from a single drive user,  this release
  15.      of AmigaZoo has two commands to try and make their  life a  little bit
  16.      easier when  using AmigaZoo.   The  first is  a command line option to
  17.      AmigaZoo that causes it to wait  for the  user to  press return before
  18.      doing any  disk I/O.   If  a "w" is the first character in the command
  19.      AmigaZoo will wait for return. (zoo wx zfile) The other  is a program,
  20.      included in  this distribution,  that sets  the behavior of the system
  21.      back to how it was before a cd  command is  issued.   This should make
  22.      single drive  users a  little less  loath to  use the cd command.  The
  23.      program is called 'uncd'.

  25.           AmigaZoo can be used advantageously with a pipe device.  Though I
  26.      have yet  to see  a shell that allows them to be used effortlessly,  I
  27.      have heard that they  exist and  would appreciate  pointers to  a good
  28.      one.   One use  of a  pipe that  comes to  mind, is  the use of a find
  29.      program, to archive a directory tree.  A find program  by Rodney Lewis
  30.      was posted  to usenet  that serves  nicely for this.  One way of using
  31.      this with the current CLI is to have  two CLI's  and type  into one of
  32.      them "find  >p:list -type f -name *.c -print" then type into the other
  33.      window "zoo <p:list aI zfile".  This assumes  that the  pipe device is
  34.      called p:.  The same effect can be done with ram: instead of pipes but
  35.      that will not allow both to  run concurrently.   Another  use of pipes
  36.      and AmigaZoo  would be to use the "xp" option of zoo and output a text
  37.      file to a paging program such as 'less' though a pipe.

  39.           If you do not have the above mentioned find program and/or a pipe
  40.      device for your Amiga,  if you send me a self addressed stamped return
  41.      mailer and a disk I will put these programs on a disk and mail it back
  42.      to you if you send me the disk before July 1, 1988.  If you would like
  43.      me to wait until the next release of AmigaZoo is ready so you get that
  44.      too please let me know.

  48.           This version  of AmigaZoo  has some  known bugs in the generation
  49.      features new to this release.  These are being fixed and a new release
  50.      will be made shortly.  They do not affect normal use.  This version is
  51.      being released,  as it is felt to  offer significant  benefit over the
  52.      previous release,   and  the MSDOS  version is out and this will allow
  53.      full manipulation of Zoo 2.00 archives  by  Amiga  users.    As  a new

  59.      release will  be coming  out shortly,  maintainers of disk collections
  60.      may not want to include this version,  but instead  wait for  the next
  61.      release.   If they  do want to include this version however,  they are
  62.      welcome to, subject to the conditions below.

  64.          AmigaZoo is a user supported program.   Zoo  was written  by Rahul
  65.      Dhesi and  modified to  run on the Amiga by J. Brian Waters.  With the
  66.      consent of  the author,  I am  requesting a  $10-$20 contribution from
  67.      satisfied users.  This contribution is voluntary and you need not feel
  68.      any guilt if you do not contribute.   Any contributions  received will
  69.      go toward  one of  three things:   firstly, and most importantly, they
  70.      will be used to acquire any tools which  may appear  on the  market to
  71.      help make  AmigaZoo better, like more optimizing C compilers or better
  72.      debuggers;   secondly, it  will be  used to  help defray  the costs of
  73.      distributing Zoo;  thirdly, if any money is still remaining it will be
  74.      used to buy some  shares of  Commodore stock.   In  any case,  you are
  75.      encouraged to  use and  distribute this program in accordance with the
  76.      conditions below.

  78.           AmigaZoo is a derivative work of  a program  copyrighted by Rahul
  79.      Dhesi  and  as  such  is  subject  to  the  following  limitations  on
  80.      distribution:

  82.                  Distribution of the executable  AmigaZoo is permitted
  83.                subject to  the following conditions.  Any violation of
  84.                these conditions may lead  to damages  in favor  of the
  85.                copyright owner.

  87.                  AmigaZoo 2.00  may be  duplicated and distributed, or
  88.                made available for downloading  via telecommunications,
  89.                for  no  fee  above  normal  connect  charges.    It is
  90.                prohibited to distribute  AmigaZoo  with  any copyright
  91.                notices  removed.    It  is  prohibited  to  distribute
  92.                AmigaZoo and not allow  the  recipient  to redistribute
  93.                it.   This file  should be included in any distribution
  94.                of AmigaZoo.

  96.             Please note that AmigaZoo has different distribution conditions
  97.      than  the  portable  version  of  Zoo.    These  conditions  allow any
  98.      telecommunications service which does not claim a compilation right or
  99.      charge  a  surcharge  to  distribute  the  AmigaZoo executable.  These
  100.      conditions allow AmigaZoo to be included on a  disk sold  at any price
  101.      so long as you allow the recipient to redistribute AmigaZoo.
