- 19-Oct-87 Moose Version 1.0 & MooseCtrl Version 1.0 documentation.
-
- At last! By popular demand! The Talking Moose comes to the Amiga!
- I saw this on the Mac some months ago, and decided that Amy needed it, also.
- This version works much like I remember the Mac version did, with the exception
- of the bulging eyes. Maybe in the next version (rsn). For those who haven't
- seen it, a small window pops up on the screen with a picture of a Moose, the
- Moose says something, and then disappears for a while. There is a separate
- program (MooseCtrl) which allows you to adjust the speech parameters (pitch,
- volume, etc.) that sends messages to the Moose task. Both programs are RUNnable
- from CLI or the Workbench (icons included). Written in assembly language. As
- much time was spent fine-tuning this program, it is being offered as Shareware.
- A donation ($5-$10) is requested by the author:

- Documentation:
-
- Moose is a background task for the Amiga, runnable from CLI or
- Workbench. The Narrator.device is needed in SYS:devs for operation. If
- narrator is not available, the Moose will not come up.
-
- MooseCtrl is a separate task that will allow you to change pitch,
- sample rate, volume, speed, and delay between appearances of the
- Moose (up to about 30 minutes). An executable file (Install.Moose)
- is included to add the special Moose.font to the SYS:fonts directory,
- run it before starting MooseCtrl. MooseCtrl will only operate if the
- Moose is already running.
-
- Moose.Phrases is a text file with most of the phrases the Moose will
- say. These phrases are in translated format, with a few modifications
- for clarity or whatever. You can edit this file so the Moose will say
- your own stuff, just make sure all phrases are in acceptable format
- (TRANSLATED) before running the Moose. I used Say and Speechtoy to set
- up the phrases. NOTE: you must have an even binary number of phrases
- in the Moose.Phrases file for proper operation (2,4,8,16,32,64,128, etc.)
- otherwise some or most phrases will never be heard. Separate phrases with
- a single NL (newline) character (ascii 10, or 0A hex), and put 2 NL's or
- form-feed (ascii 12, or 0C hex) to mark the end of the file. Moose.Phrases
- MUST be in the root directory of the disk it is called from, and not in any
- subdirectories or drawers.
-
- Distribution: This package may be freely distributed, as long as the
- COMEPLETE package is distributed unmodified:
-
- Moose
- MooseCtrl
- Moose.Phrases
- Moose.font
- 6b
- Moose.doc
- Install.Moose
-
- You can change the .info files if you wish (icons for Moose and MooseCtrl),
- but the rest of it MUST remain intact for proper operations. Also, again, this
- is Shareware, meaning if you like and decide to keep the package, or any parts
- of it, a donation is requested ($5-$10) by the author. For $15 and a disk, I
- will send you the comeplete source code (in assembler, with comments), and a
- Moose.Editor which will let you translate and test phrases for the Moose, as
- soon as it's ready, along with a few other PD programs I have floating around
- here. Your support will enable me to continue writing strange programs for the
- Amiga, both Shareware and Public Domain, and is greatly appreciated.

- If you have ideas for PD programs, and would like to see them on Compuserve,
- E-Mail me an outline of your idea and I'll look intuit. If I decide to write
- the program, I will contact you before starting on it if you wish to sell it
- or Shareware it, or if I have any questions. Full credit will be given in the
- documentation and/or the program itself where appropriate for original ideas.
