If you╒ve ever used a program that went overboard with hierarchical menus, you know what a pain it is to drag all the way down to the bottom of a menu, wait for the sub-menu to pop up, then drag over to the sub-menu to select something. And you╒d probably have to do this several times in one sitting.
Well, suffer no more! HigherMenus will save you the hassle of wading through levels and levels of menus. Hold down the option key while you select a menu with a sub-menu attached to it, and it will become a new menu in the menubar. What╒s that? Your screen is too crowded at the top and you want to get rid of some of those new menus? Hold down option while you click on the menu title, and the menu will disappear. You can still use the standard h-menu at any time.
If you should choose to use your Macintosh without loading HigherMenus, you can hold down the mouse button at startup time, and HigherMenus will not load.
COMPATIBILITY
HigherMenus has been tested on a Mac II, IIx, and 512K Enhanced, and is MultiFinder compatible. There ÑareÑ a few programs that it doesn╒t work with. I╒m looking into who╒s doing what the wrong way. The programs that I╒ve found that it doesn╒t work with are:
Ñ Microsoft Excel won╒t let you put in any extra menus.
Ñ Studio 8 - Actually, this works, except that you can╒t bring up the hierchical menus in the Goodies Menu. Why? I dunno╔ I╒m working on it!
Ñ Master Juggler - The pop up menus will bomb the machine. A lot of other things become unstable when HigherMenus and Master Juggler are used together. So if you have Master Juggler, don╒t use HigherMenus. (Or use HigherMenus and don╒t use Master Juggler╔)
I know this is an optimistically short list, but I did run through every application I could get my hands on. The list WAS a lot longer, but I went back to the drawing board every time I found an incompatilibity. These are the ones that I have NO idea what╒s wrong!
By all means, if you find a program that won╒t work, get in touch with me!
SHAREWARE
HigherMenus is Shareware. If you like it, and use it, please send $5 to me at the following address. Feel free to include comments, suggestions, and (ugh!) bug reports, especially if you find a program that HigherMenus doesn╒t work with. Help support a budding author by sending in your money today! With the current price of software going through the roof, I think that the amount I╒m asking for is fair, especially if you use HigherMenus a lot. Here╒s another good reason to pay the shareware fee. If you send in the fee, I╒ll know that you are using my program, and I╒ll be able to send updates to you directly. Who knows? I might even toss in a few freebies...
