Transcription: Like many 15th century European explorers, Columbus sought a sea route to Asia. Unlike most of the others, Columbus believed he could get to the east by way of the west. On August 3rd, 1492, the Italian-born explorer set sail under the Spanish flag to prove his theory. Thirty-three days later, his expedition landed not in Asia, but in what are now the West Indies.
