  17.              LAST is an exceptionally versatile program.  It brings together 
  18.         many of the most popular and useful functions performed by disk 
  19.         utility programs, including:
  20.  
  21.         File Viewer:  View ASCII and binary files; full-screen and split 
  22.                       screen; no size limits; displays current line/byte.
  23.  
  24.         File Finder:  Superquick multiple-drive file locator; input any 
  25.                       drive(s), directory and filename.
  26.  
  27.         Hard Disk  :  Move, rename, copy, delete and tag files; directory
  28.         Manager    :  tree display with bytes usage; directory menu.
  29.  
  30.         Text Search:  Search for a string of text in any file, directory, or 
  31.                       drive(s); choose the order in which to search the files.
  32.  
  33.         DOS Shell  :  Execute DOS commands; each command saved to disk for 
  34.                       subsequent retrieval; execute commands on tagged files.
  35.  
  36.         Program    :  Start up an application program and load a selected file
  37.         Launcher   :  into it; execute any .EXE, .COM, or .BAT file.

  39.         Disk-wide  :  Sorts ALL files by date, name, and size; the default sort 
  40.         File Sorter:  by date displays the most recently modified file first.

  43.         INSTALLATION 
  44.         ============ 
  45.              To install LAST, copy all its files to a directory listed in 
  46.         the DOS search path.  For instance, if you have a directory named 
  47.         C:\UTIL where you put utility programs, type the following command: 
  48.          
  49.                    COPY A:\*.* C:\UTIL 
  50.          
  51.         (This assumes your floppy is in drive A:.  Use B: if appropriate.) 
  52.          
  53.              You can also choose to create your own directory.  If you do, 
  54.         include that directory in the search path. 
  55.          
  56.              If you're not sure where to put LAST, copy it to C:\DOS.

  61.         DEMO  !!!!!! 
  62.         ============ 
  63.              The demo is a short introductory tour of LAST's main features. 
  64.         This is the quickest way to become familiar with LAST.  To begin 
  65.         the demo, type DEMO and press the <Enter> key.

  68.         STARTUP 
  69.         ======= 
  70.              At the C: prompt, type LAST and press the <Enter> key. 
  71.         LAST will display its logo while it reads your disk.  It then 
  72.         displays a list of files in chronological order, the most 
  73.         recent file appearing first.  Many options are now available to you; 
  74.         the Help Screen summarizes these options.  Press H (or the F1 key) 
  75.         to see the Help Screen.  For detailed instructions, read the 
  76.         MANUAL.LAS file by pressing R.  The manual is fifteen pages 
  77.         long -- we suggest you print it out by typing the following 
  78.         command at the C: prompt:

  83.         SUGGESTED USES 
  84.         ============== 
  85.          
  86.         1.  Find a file when you don't remember its name.  All you need is 
  87.             the file's approximate date, or a portion of text within it. 
  88.          
  89.         2.  Find a file when you don't remember its drive or directory but 
  90.             do know its name or part of its name.  Unlike most "WHEREIS" 
  91.             programs, LAST will not return to the C: prompt.  Instead you 
  92.             can perform viewing, searching, sorting, copying, etc. on any 
  93.             files found. 
  94.          
  95.         3.  Load a selected file into your word processor, spreadsheet, 
  96.             or other application program. 
  97.          
  98.         4.  Load a selected file into Microsoft Windows(tm).  Windows(tm) 
  99.             will determine which application created the file, open that 
  100.             application program, and load the file. 
  101.          
  102.         5.  Maneuver around your hard disk easily using LAST's directory menu. 
  103.          
  104.         6.  Select any directory or subdirectory by typing its name without 
  105.             its drive or parent directory. 
  106.          
  107.         7.  Copy the day's work to a floppy disk. 
  108.          
  109.         8.  Find out how many files have changed since the last full backup, 
  110.             and how many megabytes they occupy. 
  111.          
  112.         9.  Use LAST as a replacement for the DOS DIR command.

  120.              LAST is the last navigational tool you'll need for your PC. 
  121.         It is feature-rich, easy to learn, and simple to operate. 
  122.          
  123.              LAST is a user supported (shareware) product.  It is not 
  124.         public domain, nor is it free software.  You may use this 
  125.         product during a 30-day trial period without obligation.  If you 
  126.         use LAST after the trial period, you must register by sending $25 
  127.         to Integrated Consulting, PO Box 1613, San Juan Cap, CA  92693.

  129.              To print an order form:  after changing to the directory where
  130.         you installed LAST, type REGISTER at the DOS prompt.

  132.              Registered users will receive:  (1) a diskette with a copy 
  133.         of the latest version of LAST and (2) update notices.  All users
