  13.      Definition of Shareware. . .
  14.  
  15.           Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  16.      before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  17.      using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  18.      differ on details -- some request registration while others
  19.      require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  20.      registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  21.      using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  23.           Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  24.      and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  25.      exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  26.      programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  27.      of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  28.      and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  29.      distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  30.      and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  31.      specific group. For example, some authors require written
  32.      permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  33.      Shareware.

  35.           Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  36.      should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  37.      whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  38.      fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  39.      And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
  40.      has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  41.      product, you don't pay for it.

  65.           Users of CMEditor must accept this disclaimer of warranty: CMEditor

  76.           CMEditor is a copyrighted Shareware program by Charles F. Martin,
  77.      President, NoVaSoft and author member of the Association of Shareware
  78.      Professionals. The evaluation version of CMEditor is offered at no charge
  79.      to any potential user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  80.      friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of another
  81.      system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal
  82.      computer users with quality software without high prices, and yet to
  83.      provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products.

  85.           If you find this program useful and find that you are using CMEditor
  86.      after a 60-day trial period, you must make a registration payment of $10.
  87.      Checks may be made payable to Charles F. Martin or NoVaSoft.  You will be
  88.      sent by return mail a registered copy of the latest version of CMEditor
  89.      with hard copy of the user's manual.  You are entitled to have as many
  90.      copies of it as you wish (for example, one on each computer you use at
  91.      home and work, plus one for your briefcase), with the understanding that
  92.      these are for YOUR personal use and demonstration to others.  Please
  93.      recognize that this is a CONSIDERABLY relaxed condition on copying and
  94.      usage than some authors specify.  It is done for YOUR convenience.

  96.           Registration also entitles you to user support by mail or CompuServe
  97.      E-mail for at least one year, to a free copy by mail of the current
  98.      registered version of CMEditor, and on-disk copies of the shareware
  99.      versions of my disk/file manager CMFiler, and, by permission of the
  100.      author, Wolfgang Stiller's outstanding anti-virus/system integrity
  101.      package Integrity Master.  Please note that these latter two programs are
  102.      for evaluation only, and must each be registered for a fee with the
  103.      author if you continue to use them beyond a period of evaluation set by
  104.      the author.

  106.           Prospective commercial users of CMEditor may contact the author to
  107.      arrange for a site license.

  112.           Distributors and BBS sysops recognized by the Association of
  113.      Shareware Professionals (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware
  114.      distributors may begin offering CMEditor in their catalogs/BBS services
  115.      immediately, and will automatically receive updates by mail by virtue of
  116.      their ASP membership.  Other distributors whose only remuneration is a
  117.      nominal fee for the disk itself, and whose literature makes it clear to
  118.      their buyers that the program material must be separately purchased from
  119.      the author, may also offer CMEditor immediately, but should inform me so
  120.      that I can provide them periodic updates.  Distributors who wish to sell
  121.      CMEditor packaged as or in a retail product must contact me, and are not
  122.      authorized to distribute this version of CMEditor.
