  2.                        A Teletext to Sprite converter

  6. This program will read in a saved BBC 1k chunk of Mode 7 screen memory and
  7. convert it to a Mode 9 Archimedes sprite file.
  8.  
  9. Simply drop the Mode 7 screen on the icon on the bar and then drag the
  10. sprite file to a filer window. The sprite then behaves like any other and
  11. can be imported straight into DTP.

  23. This is the dull bit that explains that the program is public domain and may
  24. be copied freely so long as all of the files are unaltered and the directory

  44. Are you using Archimedes on Econet? Are you tired of waiting for a directory
  45. to appear? Then you need 'The Dudley Econet Front-End!!' A fully Risc-Ware
  46. menu system that allows non-privileged users to use networks without the
  47. hastle of IDs and passwords. Class and Subject areas can be implemented, and
  48. the system supports upto 7 networks with 9 file servers on each!

  56.          The Great RISC OS Info-Box Extravaganza!
  57. ==========================================================

  59. The Background
  60. ==============

  62.      It  occurred  to  me a while back that  the  Risc  OS 
  63. application info-box, informative though it is, is not the 
  64. most exciting design ever created.  I therefore set  forth 
  65. on a quest to find a more interesting info-box.  This took 
  66. me  on a 5 year (5 week actually) mission to seek-out  new 
  67. SWI's and OS calls,  and to boldly go where no  programmer 
  68. had gone before!!
  69.      
  70.      It actual it lead me to write my own info-box code as 
  71. everyone  else's  what  SO  BORING!  This  program  is,  I 
  72. believe,  the  worlds first ANIMATED  info-box!  And  it's 
  73. destined to go down in history as the finest info-box ever 
  74. created; THAT IS UNLESS YOU KNOW/'CAN DO' BETTER!!

  76. The Proposal
  77. ============
  78.      
  79.      I propose that if anyone can implement a better info-
  80. box  than mine (fat chance!) that they should  receive  'a 
  81. round of applause, a pat on the back, and a secret Masonic 
  82. handshake.'  And  that  they  should  have  their  program 
  83. distributed   to  the  most  far  flung  corners  of   the 
  84. Archimedes  realm and that their identity throughout  that 
  85. land  should be known as 'THE GUY THAT DID  THAT  INFO-BOX 
  86. THING'!!

  88. The Rules
  89. =========
  90.      
  91. 1.   It  must  run  on a on a 1Mb machine  with  a  single 
  92. floppy  and a normal colour monitor.  Programs  that  only 
  93. work properly with ARM3 or a multi-sync monitors cannot be 
  94. considered.
  95.      
  96. 2.   The  software  should  take up as  little  memory  as 
  97. possible when running on the icon-bar. Referencing back to 
  98. disk will be frowned  upon.
  99.      
  100. 3.   It  should  contain  all  the  information  that  the 
  101. current  Acorn one does but as far as design criteria  are 
  102. concerned this is the only restriction.  You can make your 
  103. box as big as you want and as colourful as you want -  but 
  104. it must be mode independent.
  105.      
  106. 4.   Your  program doesn't actually have to do anything  - 
  107. so  long as it dies when you click 'Quit' and  it  doesn't 
  108. crash too often or screw-up any other tasks.
  109.      
  110. 5.   The  programs  should  be public  domain  and  freely 
  111. copyable. 
  112.      
  113. 6.   It  can be in any language but I'm sure people  would 
  114. appreciate the source code to have a peek at.
  115.      
  116. 7.   This   !Help   file  must  stay   in   any   info-box 
  117. applications,  and any  notes/amendments/contacts/whatever 
  118. should be tagged on at the end.
  119.      
  120. 8.   And basically it should just look totally amazing and 
  121. make Amiga owners want to put away their toys and buy real 
  122. computers!!

  127.      This  is where the author can spout on and  on  about 
  128. his amazing info-box.......

  130. A note from Jason 'Monkster' Timmins.... (22nd Apr 90)
  131.      As the creator of the first amazing info-box I'd just 
  132. like  to  say how wonderful my program is -  it's  just  a 
  133. shame I can't actually think of anything useful to glue it 
  134. on to!!!
  135.      The  program is of-course completely in  scrappy  old 
  136. Basic and is nicely spaced-out (like the author!!) so  you 
  137. should be able to see what I'm doing.
