- A Teletext to Sprite converter
- By Jason Timmins
- ========================================
-
- This program will read in a saved BBC 1k chunk of Mode 7 screen memory and
- convert it to a Mode 9 Archimedes sprite file.
-
- Simply drop the Mode 7 screen on the icon on the bar and then drag the
- sprite file to a filer window. The sprite then behaves like any other and
- can be imported straight into DTP.

- History
- =======
-
- None - It just sounded like a good idea so I wrote it!!
-
-
- Disclaimer
- ==========
-
- This is the dull bit that explains that the program is public domain and may
- be copied freely so long as all of the files are unaltered and the directory
- remain intact. (And if you want to make a donation I take cash, cheque and
- all major credit cards -- Fat chance eh??) You can also upload it onto BBS's
- (so long at it's not Eurka II!!)

-
- Are you using Archimedes on Econet? Are you tired of waiting for a directory
- to appear? Then you need 'The Dudley Econet Front-End!!' A fully Risc-Ware
- menu system that allows non-privileged users to use networks without the
- hastle of IDs and passwords. Class and Subject areas can be implemented, and
- the system supports upto 7 networks with 9 file servers on each!
-
- For more information on this, and it's associated BBC version, contact Rob
- Cowel on 0384 634155.

- The Great RISC OS Info-Box Extravaganza!
- ==========================================================
-
- The Background
- ==============
-
- It occurred to me a while back that the Risc OS
- application info-box, informative though it is, is not the
- most exciting design ever created. I therefore set forth
- on a quest to find a more interesting info-box. This took
- me on a 5 year (5 week actually) mission to seek-out new
- SWI's and OS calls, and to boldly go where no programmer
- had gone before!!
-
- It actual it lead me to write my own info-box code as
- everyone else's what SO BORING! This program is, I
- believe, the worlds first ANIMATED info-box! And it's
- destined to go down in history as the finest info-box ever
- created; THAT IS UNLESS YOU KNOW/'CAN DO' BETTER!!
-
- The Proposal
- ============
-
- I propose that if anyone can implement a better info-
- box than mine (fat chance!) that they should receive 'a
- round of applause, a pat on the back, and a secret Masonic
- handshake.' And that they should have their program
- distributed to the most far flung corners of the
- Archimedes realm and that their identity throughout that
- land should be known as 'THE GUY THAT DID THAT INFO-BOX
- THING'!!
-
- The Rules
- =========
-
- 1. It must run on a on a 1Mb machine with a single
- floppy and a normal colour monitor. Programs that only
- work properly with ARM3 or a multi-sync monitors cannot be
- considered.
-
- 2. The software should take up as little memory as
- possible when running on the icon-bar. Referencing back to
- disk will be frowned upon.
-
- 3. It should contain all the information that the
- current Acorn one does but as far as design criteria are
- concerned this is the only restriction. You can make your
- box as big as you want and as colourful as you want - but
- it must be mode independent.
-
- 4. Your program doesn't actually have to do anything -
- so long as it dies when you click 'Quit' and it doesn't
- crash too often or screw-up any other tasks.
-
- 5. The programs should be public domain and freely
- copyable.
-
- 6. It can be in any language but I'm sure people would
- appreciate the source code to have a peek at.
-
- 7. This !Help file must stay in any info-box
- applications, and any notes/amendments/contacts/whatever
- should be tagged on at the end.
-
- 8. And basically it should just look totally amazing and
- make Amiga owners want to put away their toys and buy real
- computers!!
-
- The Extra Bits
- ==============
-
- This is where the author can spout on and on about
- his amazing info-box.......
-
- A note from Jason 'Monkster' Timmins.... (22nd Apr 90)
- As the creator of the first amazing info-box I'd just
- like to say how wonderful my program is - it's just a
- shame I can't actually think of anything useful to glue it
- on to!!!
- The program is of-course completely in scrappy old
- Basic and is nicely spaced-out (like the author!!) so you
- should be able to see what I'm doing.
- It's now over to you to do something better.... Bye!
