  71. Super Trash is an advanced desktop Trash Can, written in 100% hand-written machine code. It is designed in such a way that it is as user-friendly as possible. There are no complicated menu options or preferences, and if there are any that you do not entirely understand, use !Help.

  76. Before Super Trash will run, {"Italic" on}!TrashWork{"Italic" off} needs to be {\144}seen{\145} by the filer. Simply open the directory that {"Italic" on}!TrashWork{"Italic" off} is located in. If you own a hard disc, this could be in the area denoted for temporary files.
  77. {"Italic" on}!Trash Can{"Italic" off} can be placed anywhere on the hard-disc. The only area where Super Trash ever needs to write to is {"Italic" on}!{"Italic" off}{"Italic" on}TrashWork{"Italic" off}. Therefore {"Italic" on}!Trash Can{"Italic" off} could be installed on a read-only network drive.
  78. If you do not own a hard-disc, install the two programs on one floppy disc and use the Immediate preference (see later for explanation). The only reason I suggest this is that it will take a long time to move a file from one floppy to another, involving many disc swaps.
  79. If you wish to use Super Trash whenever you start up the computer, all you need do is load Super Trash when the programs are in the correct place on your disc and create a desktop boot file (see page 109 of your computer manual for an explanation of how to do this).{"Bold" on}

To use Super Trash in its simplest form, simply drag the file or selection of files to the dustbin icon. The files will then be moved to the TrashWork directory. As supplied, Super Trash will use the multi-tasking filer and move the files into the dustbin. All  of Super Trash{\145}s options can be configured to your liking however. To view the Trash directory, Click SELECT on the dustbin icon, and ADJUST will close it. This is how files can be {\144}salvaged.{\145}

If you wish to delete a file/files without having to see the Immediate option, you can simply hold down the Delete key when the files are dragged to the dustbin icon. The file/files will then be deleted. The delete options will still have effect though - you will be warned before deletion if that option is set.
  85. To open the Erase Disc window quickly, simply click Select on the Trash Can with the Shift key held down.

  91. {font Homerton.Bold.Oblique}Statistics{font}{tab}{tab}This window shows you information about the Trash area, such as the number of files in it and the size of the files. It is here that the maximum size of the Trash directory can be corrected. When the directory reaches this size the Trash will be emptied. The default is 1 Megabyte. Press RETURN or Click SELECT on OK to accept the new settings. The Trash will then be recounted.

  95. {font Homerton.Bold.Oblique}Erase Disc{tab}{font}Selecting this (or Ctrl-D) opens a window which allows you do delete a whole disc quickly. Simply drag a file/directory from the disc which you wish to wipe to the {\144}Object{\145} icon. This then finds the disc{\145}s name. If Super Trash cannot find the disc{\145}s name, you will be informed. If you prefer, you can type in the name of the disc into the icon below the {\144}Object{\145} icon. To start deleting, click on OK. You will be asked to confirm your action since wiping the disc is a pretty major thing to do. Clicking on Cancel cancels everything.{font Homerton.Bold.Oblique}

  103. It is from this window that the configuration of Super Trash can be altered. To save the settings click on Save, or press Ctrl-S. Clicking on OK, or pressing RETURN will just accept them. Saving the preferences also saves the Max Size setting.

This option enables counting of the dustbin. When selected, the trash is counted each time a file is dragged to the icon and if the trash size exceeds the Max Size, it will be emptied. If there are a lot of files in the dustbin, this may take a few seconds, and therefore an hourglass is displayed while Super Trash is counting the trash.

This is perhaps the most useful preference. When selected the RISC-OS 3 filer will be used to delete or move the files dragged to the dustbin icon. Although this is slow, you can carry on using the computer at the same time. When it is not selected, it uses the RISC-OS 2 method of copying files. This is much faster than the OS 3 method however you cannot use the computer at the same time.
