- John,
- sorry about the StrongArm problem, some one else just pipped you to the post
- with the same complaint. Hopefully the version of TidyDesk on this disk
- should work on StrongArm.
-
- Needless to say I am very envious, but I do not envisage upgrading just yet.
- Some people report that StrongArm is not so quick for graphics since writing
- to the screen is done at only half the speed of Arm710 due to the lack of
- a burst write mode. This could be overcome if you made the screen write
- cachable.
-
- I would be grateful if you try !Fractal on your new machine to see if it
- runs. If so, we could do a speed comparison. From the main menu select
- Image->mode->28 (640x480) then click on the mandelbrot icon. When complete
- look at the Image->Details panel and note the time. On my aging 410/1 a
- 640x480 plot takes 5.00 seconds. For the second test, select
- Misc->Options->Full Precision Maths and then redraw the mandelbrot and
- note the time. Since I have an FPA the plot takes 6.11 seconds at full
- precision.
-
- On a 800x600 image (mode 32) my A410/1 takes 8.35 seconds using integer maths
- and 10.00 seconds using the FPA. I would be interested to know how fast the
- floating point emulator on the StrongArm is compared to the real FPA.
-
- I could update Fractal to use the new 64-bit multiply instructions of the
- StrongArm which would significantly speed up the 32-bit integer maths
- routines.
