- 1.00 Designing textures
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- It is recommended that those who are interested in designing new species of
- texture begin by modifying and combining elements from existing textures.
- The textures supplied with the Texture Garden program have been placed into
- the public domain by the author. These may be modified to any degree and
- distributed by anyone interested in doing so.
-
- There are currenly several archives of textures available from the author's
- web site. These textures are not normaly distributed with Texture Garden.
-
- So the author does not have a monopoly on distributing textures, the
- "Super-user" version of Texture Garden will write texture files with correct
- checksums, enabling people other than the author to distribute textures
- readable by the freeware version of the program. This should encourage a
- diverse variety of inexpensive textures to come into existence.
-
- The author intends to broaden the range of textures he is able to provide
- with the program. The program has been written in a modular fashion, to
- enable third parties to write extension modules that provide new features for
- his program. He is prepared to pay for the privilege of distributing both
- textures and third-party extension modes.
-
- Textures submitted to the author should preferably be original textures, not
- mutations of existing species, crossbreeds, or old textures with new
- palettes. Only textures that increase the genuine diversity gene pool of the
- program are of interest. The existing textures provided with the first
- version of the program were all written in the process of testing the
- program, and only scratch the surface of what is possible using the program.
-
- The author regrets that aspects of his marketing technique make it difficult
- for those with the Freeware version of the program to design new textures of
- the type specified above. However, submissions and correspondence from
- unregistered users will always be welcomed. Note that textures do not have
- to be submitted with correct checksums; the author will deal with this.
-
- Because the textures distributed with Texture Garden are in the public
- domain, a useful way of generating new textures is by starting from existing
- texture programs (see the first paragraph of this file).
-
- If you would like submitted textures to be distributed with Texture Garden,
- then you MUST relinquish the copyright to the textures in writing.
- Otherwise, it would be very useful if you could please include a statement
- of copyright in the body of each texture (and its palette, if appropriate).
- Distribution conditions should also be included with any copyrighted
- textures. Although the author is happy to distribute copyrighted textures
- independently from the program, only textures capable of being placed in the
- public domain will ever be distributed with the program.
-
- 2.00 Extensions
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Language extensions are considered by the author to be considerably more
- valuable than textures. Documentation (including a summary in similar format
- to the "Language" file), source code and example textures all further enrich
- their value.
-
- Compensation for authoring language extensions will always exceed the sum
- paid as a registration fee. Hackers with time on their hands and who are
- inclined to pit their brains against the author's in an attempt to try to
- overcome the limitations that have been placed upon the operation of the
- freeware version of the program, please take note of the following:
-
- The author has tried to make life difficult for hackers of the main part of
- this program. If you like hacking, then backing up the program before doing
- so may prove very beneficial. The author will endeavour to ensure that the
- methods used in "cracking" one version of my program will not work with
- future versions; rather than fighting with him, the author invites you to
- enter into a co-operative, productive, mutually beneficial relationship with
- him by writing extension modules. This might not be quite as much fun, but
- it should provide a better return on invested time.
-
- 3.00 Payments
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The author cannot guarantee any particular payment scale. Contributors are
- hereby advised that payments will be made partly in the hope of encouraging
- future contributions. The intention of posting the values of payments made
- in future versions of this documentation is expressed. Although payments for
- individual textures will be small, prizes will be awarded at regular
- intervals to the author of the 'best' texture(s).
-
- Information regarding texture design is contained in the files "!Help",
- "Language", and "Technical".
-
- Information relating to writing extension modes is contained in the
- "Extensions" file.
-
- The author's address is available in the "Contact" file.
