  2. ReadMe for ROMPatch version 2.02, 4 Mar 97

  5. This release of ROMPatches fixes some problems with RISC OS 3.60 and
  6. with 3.70. It supersedes ROMPatch 2.01 for RISC OS 3.70 (and provides
  7. additional patches).

  9.  
  10. Purpose of patches
  11. ------------------
  12.  
  13. The problems fixed are briefly as follows:
  14.  
  15.  1) 3.70:      Slow printing to some HP printers on parallel port. (Same
  16.                as ROMPatch 2.01)
  17.  
  18.  2) 3.70:      Occasional "No stack for trap handler" on some StrongARMs
  19.                (SA110, revision less than 3). (Same as ROMPatch 2.01; see
  20.                TechNote for advice for code developers.)
  21.  
  22.  3) 3.70:      Errors from some applications using several in-memory
  23.                transfers (SWI Wimp_TransferBlock) in succession.
  24.  
  25.  4) 3.60,3.70: Crashes for very large in-memory transfers between
  26.                applications.
  27.  
  28.  5) 3.60,3.70: Failure of in-memory transfer if the transfer involves a 
  29.                dynamic area at a high address.
  30.  
  31.  6) 3.60,3.70: System centisecond timing reference and system clock can run
  32.                a few percent fast or slow for periods of about an hour.
  33.  
  34.  7) 3.60:      Floppy discs cannot be formatted if the hard disc is locked.

  37. Installing patches for RISC OS 3.60
  38. -----------------------------------
  39.  
  40. If you have used any previous form of ROM patching for RISC OS
  41. 3.60, remove it from your !Boot first.
  42.  
  43. The patches are easily installed by copying the supplied Obey file
  44. !!ROMPatch and the supplied directory (with contents) ROMPatch
  45. into your

  47.  !Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks
  48.  
  49. directory. To do this, open !Boot by holding down the Shift key
  50. while double-clicking on !Boot. Next, double-click to open Choices,
  51. then Boot, then Tasks. Now drag !!ROMPatch and ROMPatch into
  52. Tasks.

  54. Finally, restart your machine to activate the patches. You will
  55. notice a new dynamic area 'ROM patches 3.60/1' in the task bar
  56. display, if you click on the Acorn iconbar icon.

  59. Installing patches for RISC OS 3.70
  60. -----------------------------------

  62. The patches are easily installed by copying the supplied Obey file
  63. !!ROMPatch and the supplied directory (with contents) ROMPatch

  66.  !Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk
  67.  
  68. directory. To do this, open !Boot by holding down the Shift key
  69. while double-clicking on !Boot. Next, double-click to open Choices,
  70. then Boot, then Predesk. Now drag !!ROMPatch and ROMPatch into
  71. Predesk.

  73. If you have used the previous release of ROMPatch (2.01), this will
  74. update it.

  76. Finally, restart your machine to activate the patches. You will
  77. notice a new dynamic area 'ROM patches 3.70/2' in the task bar
  78. display, if you click on the Acorn iconbar icon.
