  12. If you have a registered version of Image pre version 1.65 then you can
  13. upgrade your Image to a full version 1.65 using this DEMO version. Simply
  14. copy this DEMO version to your hard disc (in a separate directory to your
  15. registered version) and run this DEMO version and follow the instructions
  16. in the 'Introduction' HELP page.

  19. IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ BEFORE RUNNING IMAGE

  22. Image requires Risc OS 3.1 or higher. It is fully Risc PC compatible.
  23.  
  24. IMAGE is SHAREWARE - it is NOT free software. Please read the User
  25. Licence (see below for details) before running Image. If you run Image
  26. you are deemed to have read, and agreed to the user licence. If you
  27. don't wish to accept the user licence, the answer is simple, don't run
  28. Image.

  30. Image is a 24bit image processing package for RISC OS, running under
  31. versions 3.1 onwards. It provides the user with tools to alter the
  32. colour range of a picture (brighten, darken, gamma correction, user
  33. defined transformations, grey scale, equalize, etc.), filter an image
  34. (soften, sharpen, remove noise, edge detection, etc.), resize an image
  35. (including rescale, crop, extend, etc), rotate (by any angle about any
  36. point, also produce spirals), merge two pictures (in many different
  37. ways), and also touch up a picture. It can read multiple formats
  38. including sprite (2, 4, 16, or 256 colour, plus 15bpp and 24bpp
  39. sprites), clear files, PBMPlus, GIF and JPEG images.

  41. The first thing you should be aware of is that Image stores pictures,
  42. internally, using files (thus keeping its memory usage to a minimum,
  43. and also allowing it to process pictures too big to fit in memory).

  45. By default these files are stored within a directory within the
  46. application, for this reason you should copy the application to a hard
  47. disc - but not a compressed area of the disc (ie. don't install the
  48. application within any compression filing system).
  49.  
  50. You should also note that it is not advisable to run Image from a
  51. floppy disc (as this will be slow and will restrict the size of
  52. picture you can process).

  55. It is important to realize how Image works, as it is a little
  56. different to most image processing packages. For this reason you
  57. should read the documentation BEFORE attempting to use Image (the
  58. documentation takes the form of a help application. To run the help
  59. application either (a) run the !Help file in this archive, or (b) use
  60. the Filer menu 'Help' option for the '!Image' application.

  62. The help application brings up a 'Contents' window containing a number
  63. of subject headings - simply click over the subject heading you wish
  64. to read (you should start off with the 'User Licence' then move onto
  65. the 'Introduction'). When you click on a subject the text for that
  66. subject will be loaded into you current text editor (or !Edit), and
  67. with some subjects an extra draw file will be loaded into !Draw.

  175. one month, after which you must register if you wish to continue using the
  176. program.

  182. Registration costs just £12 which includes a free upgrade to the next version
  183. of Image (when available). All registrations must be in pounds sterling (cash
  184. or cheque (made payable to 'I.J. Palmer') drawn on a U.K. bank - other forms
