  1. Appendix A - How to register
  2. ============================

  4. HardBack is Shareware, which means that if you like it, use it 
  5. regularly or want the extra features of the registered version, you 
  6. send a sum of £10 to the author.  In return you will receive:
  7.  
  8. •    A version of HardBack with new features
  9. •    A printed manual
  10. •    Access to technical support
  11. •    The ability to obtain new versions by sending a blank disc 
  12.     and 50p to the author
  13.  
  14. The registered version of HardBack will have many more new 
  15. features than this demo.  At the present time (Release 1.10) the new 
  16. features possessed by release Backup version 2.700 and Restore version 2.500
  17. include:
  18.  
  19. •    Compression available for all backups, with various options 
  20.     to control it.  Typically, the backup is about 50-60% of the 
  21.     size of the original files, on a typical mix of program, data 
  22.     and graphic files, which means you need less discs than you 
  23.     would using the demo version.
  24. •    Option not to rename discs used for the backup - this means 
  25.     you can use HardBack to backup to a second hard drive, 
  26.     Syquest or optical disc.
  27. •    Improved handling of hard discs, Syquests,  etc as destination 
  28.     - the destination does not have to be a FileCore filing 
  29.     system.
  30. •    Option to store a Cyclic Redundancy Check with the data - 
  31.     this basically means that when the data is restored, Restore 
  32.     will check it against this, and you will be warned if the data 
  33.     has become corrupted.
  34. •    Option to save script files on each backup disc - this allows 
  35.     you to identify discs more easily.
  36. •    Multitasking count operations - useful for large backups
  37. •    Fast mode - speeds up backup greatly.
  38. •    Skeleton mode, which stores directory and file details in a 
  39.     compact form without storing file contents.
  40. •    A display of the contents of non-blank backup discs
  41. •    Speeded up selected items in Restore and selected/ignored 
  42.     windows in Backup, which each use less memory.
  43. •    Filer-style sort by name, type, and size for restore selected 
  44.     items, and sort by name and type for selected/ignored 
  45.     windows.
  46. •    Ability to select files in a selected items window using a drag 
  47.     box, as the Filer does.
  48. •    Count, file info, pause, don’t show status window options for 
  49.     Restore.
  50. •    Increased use of drag and drop to reduce typing
  51. •    Improved desktop access while a backup is in progress.
  52. •    Ability to read ClicBack options files.
  53. •    Removal of the banners urging you to register.
  54. •    General speed-ups throughout Backup and Restore.
  55. •    Improvements taking advantage of Risc OS 3.5 and above (everything 
  56.     is still possible under earlier operating systems)
  57. •    Other smaller improvements, such as the datestamping of 
  58.     directories
  59.  
  60. More features will be added over time.  There will be no more 
  61. versions of the demo, except possibly to fix any bugs which may 
  62. arise, as I shall now spend my time on improving the registered 
  63. version.
