  1. PRE-FORMATTED PC TEXT TO ACORN CONVERSION

  3. This handy utility will convert any PC type preformatted
  4. text file like the one provided (PCTEXT) to a TEXT format
  5. suitable for Impression or Ovation or any similar type
  6. DTP program.
  7.  
  8. To try the example out, Load !Executor and then simply take
  9. the example PCTEXT file and load it into !Edit.
  10. Make sure !Edit has the input focus, its window title should
  11. be a cream colour and press 'Alt+Q' to start it off!
  12.  
  13. You will see !Executor doing all the actions to !Edit necessary
  14. to convert the supplied text file to an unformatted condition.
  15.  
  16. When !Executor has finished, it will present !Edit's Save window!

  19. WHY USE IT?
  20. Very few word processors on the Acorn market will load in
  21. and process PC formatted text files correctly. 
  22. The 'LoadRETURN' stripper that Impression uses is very limited
  23. and can not handle PC text files which have been designed to 
  24. be shown on a screen of approx. 80 characters wide.

  26. Ovation will load PC text files but it will be double line 
  27. spaced, which means more text editing.

  29. Now the ability of PC to ACORN TEXT conversion is 
  30. available to every user!

  34. CONVERTING PRE-FORMATTED ACORN TEXT TO AN UNFORMATTED CONDITION
  35. We have provided, as some examples of formatted text, some short 
  36. stories of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. 
  37. These particular stories were placed in the public domain some 
  38. years ago and they were converted from PC text files to Acorn with
  39. !Edit.

  41. If you load one of these stories, you'll notice that they are in a
  42. ugly formatted condition, impossible to use in a word processor!

  44. Load !Executor, !Edit and the !HELP file. Make sure !Edit has the 
  45. input focus, its window title should be a cream colour and press 
  46. Alt+W' to start it off! 
  47.  
  48. You'll see !Executor doing all the actions to !Edit necessary
  49. to convert the supplied text file to an unformatted condition.
  50. When !Executor has finished, it will present !Edit's Save window!

  53. WHY USE IT?
  54. If you're presented with a preformatted piece of text for inclusion 
  55. in a DTP or word processor, it can be a real pain to try and 
  56. unformat it. 
  57. With this utility you can do the unformatting in seconds!

  61. This utility has been tested with !EDIT v1.44 as supplied by
  62. Risc OS 3.1

  66. enable you to do.
