  13.  BACKGROUND
  14.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  15.  When a file is deleted from disc the reference to the file is removed, but
  16.  the actual file data remains on the disc, even though is is not accessible
  17.  in the normal way from a filer window. It is only erased when a new file is
  18.  saved on top of it. If you pass a disc on to someone with a disc sector
  19.  editor or a copy of Zap (the text/memory editor) then they can read all the
  20.  files which you deleted. One answer is to format the disc before passing it
  21.  on, but there may be some files which you want to leave on the disc, and
  22.  this would mean moving them to another disc, formatting, and then
  23.  transferring the wanted files back again. It would be helpful if a program
  24.  could erase the data of any files which had been deleted, while leaving
  25.  undeleted files alone. This was my reason for writing ClearDisc.

  28.  PURPOSE
  29.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  30.  ClearDisc will erase all data which has been left behind by deleted files,
  31.  meaning that a file which has been deleted becomes unreadable. Please note
  32.  that it is NOT possible to undelete files once this program has been used.

  35.  USING
  36.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  37.  To clear the files from a disc in drive 0 insert the disc into the drive,
  38.  ensuring that it is write enabled. Click on the ClearDisc icon on the icon
  39.  bar and a confirmation message will appear. Click on OK and all deleted
  40.  files will be erased.

  42.  Due to the method used to remove the data, D- and L-Format discs should be
  43.  compacted before using this program in order for all deleted files to be
  44.  removed effectively. My DiscComp program will do this for you - see below
  45.  if you would like a copy.

  48.  OPTIONS
  49.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  50.  The ‘Options’ submenu (from the icon bar menu) contains three options.
  51.  These are as follows:
  52.  
  53.        Drive : The drive submenu enables you to switch between drives 0, 1,
  54.                2 and 3. In a future version drives will be greyed out if
  55.                they are unavailable.
  56.            
  57.      Confirm : If this is selected then confirmation will be requested
  58.                before processing each disc. I’ve included this as an option
  59.                because clearing a disc can do no harm to the undeleted data
  60.                on it and you will probably want to turn it off.

  62.    Hourglass : If this option is selected then a percentage hourglass will
  63.                appear while the disc is being processed so you know roughly
  64.                how long the operation will take.

  66.  The final item in the ‘Options’ submenu is ‘Save’. This will save the
  67.  selected options as the defaults, and they will be used each time ClearDisc
  68.  is loaded.
