  26. What is it?

  29.     AlphaSave is a screensaver, which is supplied with many ready-made programs
  30. in it. It is called AlphaSave because it is written by Marc Warne of Alpha
  31. Programming, and because I couldn't think of any other names!

  33. What's a Screensaver?

  36.     On some monitors (AKF18...?), if the screen is left with the same picture
  37. on it for too long, that picture may become engraved onto the monitor, which
  38. will leave you with a rather horrible thing on it. This picture may stay
  39. there for ever, or may even, somehow, set alight to your monitor! For an
  40. example of this, take a look at the LCD PC, upstairs in the library, in
  41. Milton Keynes.

  43. How do you use it?

  46. To Run:
  47.     You double-click on the !AlphaSave icon. After 2 minutes¹ of nobody
  48. pressing a key or moving/clicking on the mouse, the screen will blank and a
  49. random screensaver will be loaded.

  51. To Quit:
  52.     You have to go to the taskmanager icon (either an Acorn symbol or an A),
  53. and then click on it or press menu and then click on task display to open a
  54. window. Near the top of it, there will be 'AlphaSave 1.06' written. Press
  55. menu, go over to task and select 'Quit' to quit it.

  59. What are the installed screensavers?

  62.  !AlphaS  : A screensaver with scrolling stars with the Alpha Programming
  63.             logo moving across the screen in different directions.
  64.  !Mirror  : A screensaver which makes your monitor seem as if it is going
  65.             upside down, sideways, inside out etc.
  66.  !Rain    : A screensaver which makes the screen drip downwards, like paint
  67.             being splashed by rain.
  68.  !Puzzle  : It's that screensaver which turns your screen into a sliding
  69.             block puzzle.
  70.  !AUSaver : A cheap way to advertise Acorn User (and try to get it in!)
  71.    !Worms : Get some sort of wormy-type-things bouncing around the screen

  73.  If you make your own ones, please send them to me with permission to
  74. distribute them and if they are good enough, you will get your screensaver
  75. bundled with the next version of !AlphaSave.

  77. How do you configure it?

  80.     To get to the configuration application, press both Alt keys (the left
  81. and right ones, near the space bar). This will load up !SaveConf, and will open
  82. the main configuration window. From here, you can set certain things. Please
  83. read the !Help application inside !SaveConfig for proper config. information.

  88.     If you are sent an Upgrade Archive, just drag it to the !SaveConf icon
  89. bar icon, and follow the instructions.

  91. Where can it be used?

  94.     This program can be used on any 32-bit Acorn Archimedes or RISC PC. I'm
  95. not sure whether it will work on RISC OS 2, but I see a few reasons why it
  96. should not.

  124. The frames/sec means frames per second. The higher this number is, the
  125. smoother the program will run.

  271.     When you have registered, you can receive updates of the program by
  272. either sending £1 and no disc, 50p with a disc or a S.S.A.E. with a disc. The
  273. latest version will then be sent to you. DO NOT delete your registration key,
  274. as another is not provided with the update.
