- Welcome to !TLDC v1.01
- D.Robinson 7/12/96
-
-
- !TLDC is a small program which matches Top Level Domain Codes to the
- countries which they represent.
-
- Top Level Domain Codes are found in e-mail addresses and elsewhere as
- the last two letters of the address. For example, Jill@mangler.co.uk
- has a top level domain code of uk, which means her account is in the
- United Kingdom, and Bjorn@viking.co.no has a top level domain code of
- no, which means his account is in Norway.
-
- In addition to identifying the country, this program also tells you
- the main or official language(s) of the country and gives a rough
- global location.
-
- It serves no vital function and I'm sure everybody can survive
- without it for a very long time.
-
- However, if you ever wonder where Jan Mayan Island actually is, or why
- the person on IRC with an address ending in 'tm' is finding it difficult to
- follow your English slang, then !TLDC might be what you need.
-
- The Top Level Domain Codes are specified in ISO 3166 should anyone
- wish to read it :-)
-
-
- The Info Window : IMPORTANT
- ---------------------------
- There are two new icons in the Info Window; a modem and an envelope.
- These two new icons make use of the wonderful WebLink module by
- Gert-Jan de Vos. This allows Internet users, when online, to
- automatically load the webpage from which upgrades can be obtained
- simply by clicking on the modem icon. Alternatively, clicking on the
- envelope icon opens a mailto: link to the software author - me!
-
- To find out more about this protocol, read the contents of the WebLink
- directory!
-
-
- Legal stuff
- ===========
-
- !TLDC is Freeware. That means its FREE to use but I retain
- copyright on it. PD libraries etc should check with me to ensure they
- have the most recent version. Apart from that you can do what you like
- with it except sell it with intent to make a profit.
-
- Read the !ReadME file in the WebLink directory for the conditions
- relating to the weblink module.
-
-
- Disclaimer and Warning
- ======================
-
- Whilst I have tried hard to ensure that the information given is
- correct, I give no guarantee. Many countries have numerous languages
- which are of greater or lesser importance in different areas within
- the territory. Other domains are classified as uninhabited,
- but support some kind of a scientific station,eg Buvet Island.
- The language given for such locations reflects the main language of
- the country conducting the research.
-
- Other countries such as East Timor have numerous indigenous languages
- but the occupying Indonesian forces have declaired them to be dialects
- of Indonesian. Ho hum, geography is rarely simple :-)
-
- When there is doubt about the 'official' language I have tried to give
- the language(s) most likely to be spoken and understood by the
- majority of the population. If I am wrong and you know better, please
- let me know so I can alter future versions.
