  1. The !Scrap application provides somewhere for an application to temporarily
  2. store documents and other information which is being transferred to another
  3. application.

  5. If an error message of the form "Can't transfer file (use *Set Wimp$Scrap
  6. <filename>)" is given by an application this means that the !Scrap 
  7. application has not yet been seen by the system.  You should open a
  8. directory display containing !Scrap then try the operation again.

  10. If the message "Protected Disc" is produced when trying to transfer
  11. information between applications it is probably the case that the !Scrap
  12. application is on a floppy disc which is write protected.  To be useable it
  13. must be possible for an application to write into the !Scrap application;
  14. this means that it cannot be used on a write protected floppy disc or if it
  15. is in a read-only location on a network.  You need to copy !Scrap to a
  16. writable location, then double click the new !Scrap to cause the copy to be
  17. used.

  19. Some applications also use !Scrap to store other temporary information
  20. (information which is not being transferred to another application).  These
  21. applications may need !Scrap to have been seen before they are run.
