  4. Plot is a flexible data manipulation and presentation package, combining the
  5. features and ease of use of a simple-to-use graph plotter with the power of
  6. a professional manipulation and plotting tool. Whether you want a simple pie
  7. chart or bar graph, or a properly illuminated surface plot, Plot is the tool
  8. to use. With a range of coordinate systems from the normal two dimensional
  9. Cartesian, Parametric and Polar systems, to fully three dimensional
  10. Cartesian, Cylindrical and Spherical coordinates, Plot is suitable for
  11. school, college and university at all levels (from before GCSE through to
  12. research), or for data presentation in the business or scientific fields.

  14. Plot takes data from a spreadsheet, from a formula or from the keyboard, and
  15. produces charts in seconds. With the most flexible format setting
  16. capabilities of any Archimedes graph plotter to date, you don’t need to
  17. tweak the graph with Draw, even if you want to move parts around.  Then you
  18. can save your graph as a Draw file, for use in a desktop publisher or
  19. multi-media package.

  21. For the more advanced user, Plot can perform linear regression, least
  22. squares analysis and curve fitting on the data. Calculus operations can be
  23. carried out at the click of a mouse, and any transformation can be applied.

  25. But don’t let all of these features bewilder you—you are in control at all
  26. times, and Plot remains simple and easy to use. For the beginner it even
  27. provides interactive, on-line help. Just load the RISC OS !Help application,
  28. and whenever the mouse pointer enters a Plot window, it will provide helpful
  29. messages.

  31. So, with Plot, anyone can produce stunning graphs and charts in next to no
  32. time at all. Welcome to the world of Plot.

  34. Some Hints for Using Plot
  35. =========================

  37. Plot has many features which cannot be covered in this short file. The
  38. manual has 160 pages and covers all aspects in great detail.
  39.  
  40. You should load the !Help application supplied with your computer. RISC OS 3
  41. has this in the Apps directory that sits on the icon bar. This provides
  42. extensive help about the features of Plot.

  44. Formual Plot
  45. ============
  46.  
  47. This menu is found on the Icon bar menu. From here you can choose to plot
  48. one of eight different formulae. They all have sensible defaults in them but
  49. you can change the formulae and other aspects.
  50.  
  51. Once you have plotted a formula bring up the menu by pressing Menu over the
  52. graph and then move on to the Re-Plot sub menu. Here you can plot the same
  53. data in different graph types. Only those where the data makes sense can be
  54. chosen.

  56. The most important menu item in the Re-Plot sub menu is Options. Click on
  57. this to bring up a window with many options to control the presentation of
  58. your graph. It is here that you can change colours and fonts, add backdrops,
  59. select point types and many other features.

  61. Tutorial Directory
  62. ==================

  64. This directory contains some demonstration files. The Plot files can be
  65. loaded either by dropping them onto the icon bar icon or by double clicking
  66. on them. When loaded you can draw the graph by bringing up the menu and
  67. clicking on the Re-Plot menu item or simply press <Ctrl> P.
  68.  
  69. The files in the CSV directory must be dropped onto the icon bar icon. An
  70. import window will then open. You must choose the relevant graph type using
  71. the Bump arrows in the top left section of the window. Initially this will
  72. show Cartesian. Click on the arrows to select the correct type and then click
  73. on Import followed by Re-Plot as before. The list below indicates what to do
  74. for each CSV file.

  76. Histogr  - Select Histogram graph - Select Re-Plot=> Histograms=> Normal=> 5
  77.          - Try 3D Histogram and some of the others.

  79. PieChart - Select Pie Chart graph - Select Re-Plot=> Pie Chart=> 3D
  80.          - Use the Options menu to select colours using the Slices option

  82. Surface  - Select Surface graph - press <Ctrl> P
