- !SlideSave 1.00
-
- by Steve Smale, 1995
-
-
- This is the second version of the help file as I've just looked at the first
- one again and it makes no sense whatsoever, so here goes with a (hopefully)
- more understandable version:
-
- Boring bit
- ----------
-
- This is Freeware - pass on unaltered copies but if you fiddle with the code,
- don't pass it on unless you've checked with me.
-
- Introduction
- ------------
-
- This application provides the basis for a screensaver of your choice. It was
- originally designed to run !SlideShow on a RiscPC (hence the name), but will
- (should) run almost anything else you set it to, and you can also change the
- blank delay.
-
- When your computer has been unattended for the specified blanking delay
- time, the program will check if there is enough memory for the program you
- have set it to run. If so, it will run it, if not it will blank the screen
- in the conventional way.
-
- Note that immediately before blanking the pointer will rapidly blink ten
- times. This is a warning it is about to blank; move the mouse or press
- something to prevent it. I put this in as it gets really annoying when
- you're sat there really deep in thought trying to follow some program code
- and suddendly you find it's turned into lots of pretty pictures - none too
- helpful, really!
-
-
- Installing
- ----------
-
- To install this program to automatically run when you switch on your Risc
- PC, shift + double click on !Boot on your harddisc, then double click on
- Choices, Boot, Tasks, then drag !Slidesave into the Tasks directory.
-
- To install it on a non-Risc PC, do something else. I can't be much more help
- on this as it depends how your !Boot is set up (or if you even have one!)
-
-
- Setting the options
- -------------------
-
- If this program was supplied on a magazine coverdisc (Acorn User, perhaps?),
- you must first copy it off the coverdisc to another disc. Once you've done
- this, double click on !SlideSave which holding the Shift key, then load the
- !Choices file into !Edit. This file contains three settings:
-
- Path of slideshow
- The full pathname of the application you want to run as your screensaver
- (ie the title bar of the filer window plus a '.' and the name of the prog).
- The default setting for the RiscPC slideshow is adfs::4.$.Images.!Slideshow
-
- Memory required
- This is the amount of memory needed by the screensaver program you intend
- to use. If this amount is not free when the screen needs screensavering, it
- will be blanked conventionally. Acorn's !Slideshow needs 580k.
-
- Blanking time
- The amount of time the computer must be unused before the blanker/saver
- runs (in seconds).
-
- Disclaimer
- ----------
-
- I accept no responsibility for any cockups you may claim are the fault of me
- or this program. If it wrecks anything, loses any work, or makes your gerbil
- spontaneously combust, don't blame me!
