- In use
- ~~~~~~
- If you followed the instalation instructions you
- should get the !Multiboot window when you turn on
- your computer. You should also have a selection
- of !Boot files in he scripts directory. If not
- read the BootFiles help file.
-
- If everything is pear-shaped...
-
- • The computer crashes
- • The hard disc has been destroyed
- • The printers run out of ink
- • You've lost the latest 'AcornUser'
- • !MultiBoot wont load
- • It's several months until the next
- season of Babylon5
-
- ...then Don’t panic! Try again or give me a ring.
- (I can’t promise to sort out all of those problems)
-
- What does it do?
-
- BITS ON THE MAIN WINDOW:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Main white box: (should say 'Basic')
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is where the name of the boot file to be used
- to setup the desktop goes. You can edit it by
- clicking in the box and typing the name of
- another file or.....
-
- Button next to central white box (arrow)
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Clicking here with any button produces a list of all
- the boot files in the scripts directory which is
- inside the !MultiBoot directory.
-
- Execute button
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This will run the boot file as specified in the
- white box. If the file cannot be found or no name
- is entered an error is created.
-
- Toggle Button (far right of title bar)
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Click on this to display and hide the message bar.
-
- MAIN MENU: (Opened when MENU is pressed over main window)
- ~~~~~~~~~~
-
- -------------
- Info ⇨ Opens a window with really useful
- information in.
- Legal stuff ⇨ Another great read.
- -------------
- Help… Opens the help file you choose
- in the format you choose.
-
- Options… Opens the 'Options' window where you
- can configure the program (see below).
-
- Show scripts Opens the directory where the boot
- files used to make up the menu are
- kept. Useful if you want to add
- another etc.
- (This directory can be accessed by
- holding down SHIFT and double
- clicking on the !MultiBoot app.
- Then double click on scripts to
- open it.)
- -------------
- Execute… Executes the boot file in the big white
- box. (Same as the Execute button).
- -------------
- Quit Quits the application. (The program will
- quit automatically when execute is seleceted).
- -------------
-
-
- Options Window
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- A window with several preferences that can be
- set and saved.
-
- Default file: When the program loads, a file is in
- the white bit, this is usually the
- file 'Basic' which doesn't do
- anything when it is loaded but is just
- there as an example.
- By clicking on the box next to the
- white area a list of all the files
- in the scripts directory. Clicking
- on one will set it as the default
- file, so it's name will be in the
- box when the program is next run.
- (choose the file you will use most
- often)
-
- Comment: Type anything you like in here and it
- will be displayed in the mian window
- when you load the program.
- Default "Have a nice day!"
-
- Quit on
- Execute: If this box is ticked the program
- will quit when you click on Execute.
- Untick the box to stop this happening
- (If anyone finds a use for this let
- me know!)
-
-
-
- Cancel: Close the options window.
-
- Use: Use the settings as they are.
-
- Save & Exit: This will save the current settings
- shown in the window (overwriting any
- previous ones) in the Options file.
- Any changes will not take effect until
- the program is re-loaded.
-
-
-
- Keyboard shortcuts:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- The only one so far implimented is Escape which
- quits at any time.
-
- #####################################################
-
- If you find this program really usefull and use it
- a lot (ie everytime you turn on your computer) then
- a donation towards the countless hours I spent
- slaving over a hot keyboard with 'Wimp Programming
- for all' in hand would be very much appreciated.
-
- Anyone who does contact me in this way will hear
- of any improvements and bug-fix (never!) releases.
-
-
-
- I confess!!
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
- The routine for creating a list of files in a
- directory was 'borrowed' from a program called
- '!DiscTree' by Martyn S. Lovell. It was on a
- public domain disc so it is legal (sort of).
-
- If you read this Martyn: Please dont sue I haven't
- got much money and I'am trying to save up for a
- CD-ROM drive and !OvationPRO.
