  1. Appendix A - How to register
  2. ============================

  4. HardBack is Shareware, which means that if you like it, use it 
  5. regularly or want the extra features of the registered version, you 
  6. send a sum of £10 to the author.  In return you will receive:
  7.  
  8. •    A version of HardBack with new features
  9. •    A printed manual
  10. •    Access to technical support
  11. •    The ability to obtain new versions by sending a blank disc 
  12.     and 50p to the author
  13.  
  14. The registered version of HardBack will have many more new 
  15. features than this demo.  At the present time (Release 1.04) the new 
  16. features possessed by release 2.01 include:
  17.  
  18. •    Compression available for all backups, with various options 
  19.     to control it.  Typically, the backup is about 50-60% of the 
  20.     size of the original files, on a typical mix of program, data 
  21.     and graphic files, which means you need less discs than you 
  22.     would using the demo version.
  23. •    Ability to read ClicBack options files.
  24. •    Removal of the banners urging you to register.
  25. •    Speeded up selected items in Restore and selected/ignored 
  26.     windows in Backup, which each use less memory.
  27. •    Filer-style sort by name, type, and size for restore selected 
  28.     items, and sort by name and type for selected/ignored 
  29.     windows.
  30. •    Ability to select files in a selected items window using a drag 
  31.     box, as the Filer does.
  32. •    Count, file info, pause, don’t show status window options for 
  33.     Restore.
  34. •    Option not to rename discs used for the backup – this means 
  35.     you can use HardBack to backup to a second hard drive, 
  36.     Syquest or optical disc.
  37. •    Option to store a Cyclic Redundancy Check with the data – 
  38.     this basically means that when the data is restored, Restore 
  39.     will check it against this, and you will be warned if the data 
  40.     has become corrupted.
  41. •    General speed-ups throughout Backup and Restore.
  42. •    Improvements taking advantage of Risc OS 3.5 (everything 
  43.     is still possible under earlier operating systems)
  44. •    Option to save script files on each backup disc – this allows 
  45.     you to identify discs more easily.
  46. •    Improved handling of hard discs, Syquests,  etc as destination 
  47.     – the destination does not have to be a FileCore filing 
  48.     system.
  49. •    Multitasking count operations – useful for large backups
  50. •    Fast mode – speeds up backup greatly.
  51. •    Skeleton mode, which stores directory and file details in a 
  52.     compact form without storing file contents.
  53. •    Other smaller improvements, such as the datestamping of 
  54.     directories.

  56. More features will be added over time.  There will be no more 
  57. versions of the demo, except possibly to fix any bugs which may 
  58. arise, as I shall now spend my time on improving the registered 
  59. version.
