- RiscBSD Beta Release
-
- This is a partial release intended for alpha2 users only.
-
- This is not the full beta release. The sets currently available are just
- the core sets. These files are for the nuts who cannot wait till next week
- when the rest of beta will be available. It also give a chance for a few
- people to test it over the weekend.
-
- The full release will be available at the beginning of next week
-
- Note: You will need to run a new kernel with the beta release that support
- 0x1000 execution addresses.
-
- Before installing the beta sets you may like to play with the kernel and make sure that
- it is working fine with your configuration. i.e. the beta kernels will work
- with the alpha2 release but the beta binaries will not work with the alpha2
- kernels.
-
- NOTE: You do not need to install the etc set as this will replace all
- the files in etc that you have configured.
-
- There are two rootdiscs. One contains the install script used to partition your
- disc while the other can be used to boot RiscBSD from an alternative root
- filesystem for the upgrade (NOTE: The kernel team did their beta upgrades on
- a live system and it seemed to work ok)
-
- Another thing to bear in mind are the chances to the compiler. The assembler
- and C compiler are no longer in directories in /usr/gnu. Instead they are
- now taking there correct places in /usr/bin and /usr/libexec
- You will need to remove the old compiler yourself.
-
- Cheers,
- Mark
