  9. The Graphics device drivers supplied here are for the Oct 92 Beta Release of 
  10. Windows NT operating system.  It is required that Windows NT operating 
  11. system is loaded onto the computer system.

  13. The drivers are in beta form and has been released with no implied warranties
  14. and or guarantees of functionality.  Any questions or problem reports should
  15. be addressed to ATI Driver Development via the ATI forum on Compuserve.

  31. This ATI driver is a preliminary release developped by ATI programmers
  32. since the release of the Windows NT DDK in October 1992.  It has NOT
  33. been through our QA process, nor optimized for speed as we wanted to get 
  34. a driver into out customer's possession ASAP, with the hopes that it will 
  35. be useful to you.

  37. Tell us if the driver fails to run, or there are MAJOR 
  38. bugs that prevent you from using the driver, and ATI will correct them.

  57. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS -----------------------------------------

  59. Windows NT operating system is assumed to be installed in C:\WINNT.
  60. ATI graphics utilities (shipped with the video card), assumed to be 
  61. already installed.

  63. This ATI driver package containing:
  64.   - ATIMP.SYS      (ATI Graphics miniport driver)   *** NEW NAME ***
  65.   - ANTPANEL.EXE   (Configuration program for the driver)
  66.   - INPORT.SYS     (Bus Mouse driver)
  67.   - ATIEO.DLL      (no aperture driver)
  68.   - FRAMEBUF.DLL   (aperture driver)

  71. Procedure:
  72. 1. Copy the ATIMP.SYS driver   to the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM\DRIVERS directory.
  73.    Copy the *.DLL     drivers  to the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM         directory.
  74.    Delete    C:\WINNT\SYSTEM\DRIVERS\68800.SYS             (if updating)

  76. 2. Copy the Windows NT ANTPANEL.EXE configuration program to a directory 
  77.    which is contained in your Windows NT PATH environment variable.
  78.  
  79. 3. If your ATI Graphics card does not include a mouse port
  80.    or if you are using a pointing device not connected to the ATI adapter, 
  81.    proceed to step 5.

  83. 4. Read Mouse.txt to see if you require the ATI mouse driver.

  85. 5. Restart Windows NT.
  86.    Windows NT will start up in 640x480, 16 colour VGA mode. This is normal.

  88. 6. From the Program Manager, run ANTPANEL.EXE. Select the resolution and
  89.    colour depth you want to use, then click on the "OK" button. Your
  90.    selections will take effect after you shut down and restart Windows NT.

  152. What to do if Windows NT "hangs" at the Win NT "Blue Screen" with the
  153. ATI graphics device drivers.
  154.  
  155. These drivers ONLY work with the October Beta Release.
  156.  
  157. Ensure  FRAMEBUF.DLL and ATIEO.DLL are in the \WINNT\SYSTEM directory
  158. that Windows NT Boots from.  Do you have More than one WIN NT Installed?
  159. Is your directory name where NT installed different than WINNT?
  160.  
  161. Is the aperture enabled where System Memory is Located?
  162. To verify where the aperture is located do this:
  163.     BOOT DOS
  164.     execute the ATI utility C-INFO.EXE or 8-INFO.EXE, this will tell
  165.     you about the Memory Aperture and the Card Configuration.  
  166. Use the INSTALL.EXE program to modify the aperture settings. 
  167.  
  168. Is the computer system CMOS  "shadowing the BIOS with RAM"?  
  169. Is the CMOS Caching the Video BIOS at C0000-C7000?
  170. Disable both of these. This can cause Windows NT to hang in a 
  171. Black Screen, or fail to Reboot completely.
  172.  
  173. Does it work if the ANTPANEL.EXE is used to select 1024x768 256 colors, or
  174. 640x480 256 colors?.
  175. Disable the ATI driver by renaming \winnt\system\drivers\ATIMP.SYS to
  176. something like ATIMP.ATI. Reboot, will get VGA. Run ANTPANEL.EXE, rename
  177. driver to ATIMP.SYS and restart WIN NT.

  181. How to UNinstall the ATI Windows Device Driver.  There are TWO ways to do
  182. this without reinstalling Windows NT.
  183.  
  184. ONE method is:
  185.     CD \winnt\system\drivers
  186.     ren ATIMP.sys  ATIMP.ati
  187.     Windows NT looks for *.SYS drivers at boot time, if it cannot find it,
  188.     it cannot use it.
  189.  
  190. SECOND method is:
  191.     While running Windows NT, execute the ANTPANEL.EXE program.
  192.     Select Advanced Button, Driver Status to Disabled.
  193.     Exit the program
