- ╔══════════════╗
- ║ Introduction ║
- ╚══════════════╝
- MACWIN came about in a peculiar way. While writing a 1024x768 driver for
- my VGA so that it became a windows 3.0 compatible board I noticed the way
- things were being accessed by the BIOS. Hence the birth of MACWIN. Its
- completely transparent to DOS's Memory. Its NOT a tsr by any means. It
- sort of routes things a though another course instead of the normal way.
- It has a couple of problems, but it is NOT destructive in any way that I
- know of (SEE "KNOWN BUGS")
-
-
- ╔═══════╗
- ║ Usage ║
- ╚═══════╝
-
- Simply type MACWIN with no parameters and it installs itself. I
- recommend popping it in your autoexec.bat file for ease of use.
-
- It has been tested on MS DOS 3.3 and 4.01 NOT 5.0 as of yet
- It has been BETA tested under the following screen drivers I will
- rate them.
-
- DOUBANSI.SYS (Double ansi)
- ZANSI.SYS
- FANSI.SYS
- NANSI.SYS
- ANSI.SYS
-
- For some reason ZANSI.SYS (a shareware product, found on most popular BBS's)
- Is the fastest when run in conjunction with MACWIN. Fo instance, running
- ANSI.SYS (DOS's Standard Attempt) I got about a 3-4 fold increase in
- screen performance (tuff to measure really) but with ZANSI I got at least
- 3 times that. So your screen driver makes a difference too...
-
- My BETA testers (Rey Barry - FreeWare Hall Of Fame & Others) have
- reported that Double Ansi was even faster, but, since I don't own this
- I haven't tested it.
-
-
- Bottom Line.... Even without any screen driver MACWIN will Speed up
- Windows but having a good screen driver makes it all the more proficient.
-
- ╔═══════════════╗
- ║ KNOWN BUGS ║
- ╚═══════════════╝
-
- For some reason "installation" programs have trouble with it. It doesn't
- do any damage, but it will hang your computer. Thus when installing
- any program just disabled it (Boot without loading) and you won't have any
- problems.
-
- Corel Draw was one that I found gave me a problem and some Borland products.
- i.e. Borlands C++ scanf hates it. 99% of all programs that failed during
- installation worked fine after you installed the program without MACWIN
- and then reinstalled MACWIN after installation was finished. I have tried
- to fix this but have been unsuccessful, but the program speeds up windows
- too much to be bothered by this small problem. SO I'm releasing it anyway.
-
- When I installed CorelDraw the program hung right away. I took out
- MACWIN and installed it, then reloaded MACWIN and CorelDraw runs great
- with it.
-
-
- This program was written in Microsoft Assembler 5.0
