  11. The driver included with this file is a completely NEW design of
  12. display driver for WINDOWS, developed by Orchid Technology. This 
  13. unique driver features a totally "Unitized" design, which means 
  14. that this single driver is capable of running ALL super VGA modes:
  15.                    
  16.                        640x480x256  800x600x16   800x600x256 
  17.                        1024x768x16 1024x768x256  1280x960x16 
  18.  
  19. This driver has been optimized for MAXIMUM performance while maintaining
  20. complete compatibility with Windows, Windows applications and True Type
  21. Fonts. By using this driver, the need for individual drivers for each 
  22. resolution is eliminated, thus saving approximatly 750K of disk space.

  24. INSTALLATION
  25.  
  26.              **IMPORTANT BEFORE INSTALLING THIS DRIVER** 
  27.             THE WINDOWS DISPLAY IN SETUP MUST BE SET TO VGA
  28.  
  29.  
  30. There are 8 files included with the Orchid Fahrenheit 1280 Windows 3.1
  31. driver to be installed as follows:
  32.  
  33. 1)  ORCHID.EXE    This is the control panel utility for the driver. 
  34.                   COPY this file into the \WINDOWS directory.
  35.  
  36.  
  37. 2)  ORCHIDF.DRV   This is the Orchid Fahrenheit 1280 Windows 3.1 driver
  38.               
  39.     CARVGA.GR2    These are the grabber & virtual display driver files 
  40.     CARVGA.GR3    used when Windows is displaying a DOS window
  41.     VDDCAR.386    
  42.  
  43.     8514FIX.FON   These are the additional Windows 3.1 Font files  
  44.     8514OEM.FON   required for Large menu and Icon text
  45.     8514SYS.FON
  46.  
  47. Copy the Driver, Grabber & Font files into the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. 
  48.

  50. *** NOTE:  The French & German versions of Windows 3.1 require the font 
  51.            files supplied with those versions be loaded. Customers using
  52.            those versions should NOT LOAD THE FONTS SUPPLIED WITH THIS
  53.            FILE. To load the correct fonts, first select and load 8514
  54.            (LARGE) display driver option in Windows SETUP. THIS MUST BE
  55.            DONE FROM THE COMMAND LINE OUTSIDE OF WINDOWS. After this 
  56.            selection has been completed, reselect VGA as the DISPLAY in
  57.            SETUP and continue with the installation.

  63.    To change resolution:
  64.    
  65.    1) Start Windows
  66.    2) From the PROGRAM MANAGER
  67.       a) Select File, then select RUN.
  68.       b) Type in ORCHID, then OK.
  69.  
  70.    The Orchid Display control panel will be displayed and you can select
  71.    the Resolution, Number of Colors and Title Bar Text size (not currently
  72.    supported in all resolutions).

  75. ADVANCED USERS
  76.  
  77.    A minor modification may be made to the WIN.INI file which will allow
  78.    the Orchid control panel to be selected from an ICON on the Windows 
  79.    Desktop.

  81.    For this option, add to the following line of the WIN.INI file:

  83.   From: 
  84.           [windows]
  85.           load=
  86.     
  87.     TO:   [windows]
  88.           load=ORCHID.EXE

  91. This driver will be included on the next release of the Fahrenheit 1280
  92. Driver and Utility Diskette. Also included on the next release will be 
  93. Hi-Color support for Windows. Should you encounter a problem with this
