- Overview
- METZ Runner is a utility designed to provide a quick method to
- run applications and files. The steps normally required to run an
- application from Microsoft Windows can be bypassed by using Runner.
- Enter the application filename on the Runner screen and press
- enter. If the shift key is down when you press enter, the application
- will be iconized, if the control key is pressed, then the application
- will be maximized. Command line parameters can also be specified.
- If you enter a filename which has an extension defined in the
- extensions section of your WIN.INI, the appropriate application will
- be run with that file. A configuration dialog allows you to specify a
- default application to run when no appliciaon is found for the file
- extension.
- Running Non-Windows applications with Runner may require
- an appropriate .PIF file (see the Microsoft Windows Users Guide).
- Enter the .PIF file to run instead of the .EXE or .COM file.
- For your convenience, the license number RNEVAL will allow you
- evaluate this application for a limited time without the usual reminder
- screens popping up.
-
- Non-registered users
- This release is a demonstration version and as such is not to be
- sold. Runner may only be distributed for free (or at cost) as the
- following group of files: RUNNER.EXE, RUNNER.DOC, METZ.ORD, APPS.WRI.
- These files may not be modified in any way.
- Use for purposes other than evaluation requires payment of the
- registration fee. Once you register and receive a license number you are
- automatically allowed to upgrade to future releases. It is important
- that you register this application to help insure continued support and
- development. Our intention is to provide useful, user-friendly
- applications at a low cost, and your support helps make that possible.
- All available functionality is enabled in this version to provide
- you the ability to effectively evaluate this application.
- Ordering information is included in the file METZ.ORD or available
- by contacting METZ Software. All orders will receive a disk containing
- the latest versions of our products.

- ------------ METZ Runner version history ------------------
-
- Version 1.21
- * Maintenance release, no major changes.
-
- Version 1.2
- * Runner will now move to the directory containing the file you
- enter so that the opened file or application will access it's
- home directory by default. Previously, the application would
- consider itself to be in the same directory as Windows or Runner.
-
- Version 1.1
- * If you double click on the caption bar, Runner will run the current
- file.
- * An Exit Windows option has been added to the Runner system menu. This
- provides a quick way to exit Windows.
- * Runner adds an extension of .EXE by default when no extension is
- specified. Runner now also trys .COM & .PIF extensions when no
- file extension is specified.
- * If no file extension is specified, and the filename does not appear
- to be an application, a period is appended to the filename.
-
- Version 1.01
- * The file extension logic was not working properly. This has been
- corrected. You can now enter a file such as LETTER.WRI and result
- in Microsoft Write running with the file LETTER.WRI loaded.
-
- Version 1.0 - released 5/90
- * This application is compatible with Windows 2.x and 3.0.
- * first release.
