  1.                    WELCOME TO THE ADAGUIDE(TM) SERIES

  3.         Volume 1 of the ADAGUIDE(TM) SERIES is a complete hypertext
  4.         presentation of TITLE III of the Americans With Disabilities
  5.         Act.
  6.  
  7.         Hypertext documentation, also known as "electronic books",
  8.         permits the user to access selected information, quickly and
  9.         without the necessity of reading from front to back, as in a
  10.         regular document.  This approach is particularly effective in
  11.         complex, highly cross-referenced technical manuals and legal
  12.         guides such as TITLE III.

  14.         SHAREWARE NOTICE

  16.         ADAGUIDE(TM), Volume I is shareware.  As such, the author
  17.         grants you a limited license to "try before you buy" for a
  18.         thirty (30) day period. If you continue to use the ADAGUIDE
  19.         (TM) after this trial period, you must register the software.
  20.         Registration details and benefits are discussed at the end
  21.         of this readme file.

  23.         Please note that this shareware version of the ADAGUIDE(TM)
  24.         Series is fully functional, it is NOT crippleware; however,
  25.         registered users do receive additional benefits and inclu-
  26.         sions to this program.

  28.         Additionally, you are authorized and encouraged to share this
  29.         software with others, so long as you include ALL of the files
  30.         that were in the original .zip file that you downloaded. Please
  31.         make sure that this readme file is also included.

  73.         SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  74.  
  75.         ADAGUIDE(TM) Volume 1, has been written to take advantage of
  76.         color, so you will need a computer that supports color.
  77.         A minimum of 512k of system RAM is required and the software
  78.         runs on IBM PC/XT/AT* or 100% compatibles.  It has been suc-
  79.         cessfully run in a full window of DESQVIEW*, but it has not
  80.         been tested in WINDOWS 3.0/3.1*  DOS 3.x or higher is required.

  92.         QUICK START
  93.  
  94.         This is a brief start-up guide to get you going with the soft-
  95.         ware.  Registered users receive a printed, bound USER'S MANUAL.
  96.  
  97.         INSTALLATION: Installation should be onto a hard drive to gain
  98.         the best performance; however, the program can be installed on
  99.         a floppy diskette.
  100.  
  101.         The installation process is quite simple:
  102.  
  103.         1. Use PKZIP/PKUNZIP to extract the contents of ADA301.ZIP into
  104.         a directory on your hard drive. We suggest you make a special
  105.         directory for this program.
  106.  
  107.         2. Once the files are unzipped, check the files against the file
  108.         list above to make sure that you have a complete set.
  109.  
  110.         a. REQUIRED FILES: ALL files, except the README.COM/README.TXT
  111.         (this file), are required to use ADAGUIDE(TM) Volume 1.
  112.  
  113.         GETTING STARTED: To start the ADAGUIDE(TM) program simply change
  114.         to the directory containing the files, and then at the prompt,
  115.         type: A3, and press enter.
  116.  
  117.         USING THE ADAGUIDE(TM): Access to various portions of this
  118.         program is provided through (a) POP-UP MENUS, and (b) through
  119.         HYPERTEXT HOTWORDS.  We will discuss each, briefly, below.
  120.  
  121.                 POP-UP MENUS: The pop-up menus are for general
  122.                 browsing through major sections (books) of the
  123.                 ADAGUIDE(TM) document.  To activate a pop-up
  124.                 menu item, use the arrow (cursor) keys to select
  125.                 the menu topic and then press enter.  You will
  126.                 be moved to the selected section of the guide.

  128.                 NOTE: POP-UP Menu items are shown with a BLACK
  129.                 background when they have been selected.
  130.  
  131.                 HYPERTEXT HOTWORDS: These are the key elements
  132.                 that transport you into various cross references
  133.                 throughout the TITLE III regulations.  ALL
  134.                 HOTWORDS are PRECEDED by the ∞ symbol.  Many
  135.                 of them will also be in color (either the word,
  136.                 the symbol or both).

  138.                 To ACTIVATE a hotword, use the TAB key to select.
  139.                 As you do so, you will notice that the highlight
  140.                 bar skips from hotword to hotword.  Once you have
  141.                 made your choice, PRESS THE ENTER key to activate
  142.                 the hotword.

  144.                 NOTE: You may reverse the selection process, that
  145.                 is go up the page, by using the Shift-Tab combina-
  146.                 tion.
  147.  
  148.                 When you have selected and activated a hotword you
  149.                 will be instantly transported to detailed informa-
  150.                 tion relating to the hotword you selected.

  153.                 GETTING BACK:  When you have finished reading a par-
  154.                 ticular hotword section, you will be instructed to
  155.                 bring up a POP-UP MENU, many of these will have a
  156.                 menu selection entitled: RETURN. Selecting this menu
  157.                 item will permit you to return to the area in the
  158.                 document where you originally selected the hotword.

  160.                 NOTE: Some brief, hotword sections, simply let you
  161.                 RETURN to you original place. In these cases there
  162.                 will be no POP-UP MENU available.

  165.         GETTING HELP
  166.  
  167.         GETTING HELP: ON-LINE HELP is included in the ADAGUIDE(TM) pro-
  168.         gram.  Each of the key POP-UP MENUS will give you the option to
  169.         select HELP. Additional details on the the above procedures as
  170.         well as other available hypertext features are covered in the
  171.         help section.

  173.         Registered Users, also receive a USER'S MANUAL which provides
  174.         full help documentation as well a several illustrative tutor-
  175.         ials.

  194.         and broken down into sections and subsections for easier use.

  196.         2.  A printed, bound copy of the USER'S MANUAL.

  198.         3.  A printed, bound copy of the TECHNICAL DRAWINGS.
