- This is an addendum to the HARDWARE.DOC file that comes with this
- player. It is the assembly instructions for a CHEAP D/A converter
- with parts that are available here in the U.S.
-
- First of all, you'll need a parts list:
-
- U1 - Motorola part No. MC-1408 (or compatible e.g.NTE-2056)
- ***this is the DAC chip!***
- J1 - 25 position female D-subminiature connector
- ***Radio Shack part no. 276-1548***
- J2,J3 - RCA Female plugs (2) **these look like this***

-
- 22 gauge stranded hook-up wire
-

- Unfortunately, I had to use regular keyboard characters to draw this,
- but I hope you get the idea. This circuit requires NO external power source,
- although you must hook it up through an amplifier. (If you use a mono amp,
- just use one RCA plug, and don't split the output.) You will need a cable
- to connect the thing to your printer port, and you can use a 25 conductor
- ribbon cable with two male 25 pin d-sub. connectors at the ends. (this works
- just fine.) The entire thing shouldn't take more than $10-15 to build,
- and you'll get good 8-bit sound from it.
-
- Hope you enjoy the project!

- P.S. This can be used on ANY program that uses a Covox Speech Thing (as long
- as it doesn't use SmoothTalker), or Disney Sound Source. I know this as
- fact, since I've tried it with 688 Attack Sub, DigiPak sound player,
- ScreamTracker, ModPlay, and Sputter. Enjoy!
