- INSTALLING AND RUNNING FIELD GENERAL
- _________________________________________________________________
-
- INSTALLATION:
-
- Welcome to FIELD GENERAL! FIELD GENERAL is a professional
- football simulator programmed for IBM computers and compatibles
- with CGA. A hard disk is needed to unpack and run this software.
-
- The VERY FIRST thing you need to do is make at least one
- backup of the FIELD GENERAL distribution disk (2 backups are
- preferable). This simple action will guard against the loss of
- information needed to run FIELD GENERAL. Consult your DOS manual
- on how to use DOS's "diskcopy" command if you have any questions
- on how to make a backup disk.
-
- FIELD GENERAL'S executable and data files have been archived
- so they would fit on the 360K, 5 1/4 inch distribution disk. These
- files are archived in the self-extracting file "ARCHIVED.EXE". To
- install FIELD GENERAL, follow these 4 steps:
-
- 1) Create a directory on the hard disk for the FIELD
- GENERAL football simulator by using DOS's "md"
- command. i.e. When in your hard disk's root
- directory, enter the command:
-
- md fgeneral.51
-
-
- 2) Copy the file "ARCHIVED.EXE" into the FIELD GENERAL
- directory you just created by using DOS's "copy"
- command. i.e. If your FIELD GENERAL distribution
- disk is in drive A and your hard disk is drive C,
- enter the command:
-
- copy a:archived.exe c:\fgeneral.51
-
-
- 3) While in the directory you created for FIELD
- GENERAL, unarchive the FIELD GENERAL files by
- typing "archived" at the system prompt.
-
-
- 4) Delete the file "ARCHIVED.EXE" by using DOS's "del"
- command. i.e.:
-
- del archived.exe
-
-
- FIELD GENERAL is now ready for play!
-
-
-
-
-
- RUNNING FIELD GENERAL:
-
- 1) Be sure you have read the description for the file
- "SCR_MELT.COM". This description is found in
- Appendix A in the User's Manual, file "GENERAL.DOC",
- and contains important information which may pertain
- to you and your computer system.
-
- 2) Read all files with the extensions ".DOC" and
- ".TXT", especially the files "GENERAL.DOC",
- "REGISTER.DOC", and "PLAYS.TXT".
-
- 3) Make sure the hard disk you are running FIELD
- GENERAL from has some extra memory, about 60K, so
- FIELD GENERAL has room to create seven files
- during program execution.
-
- 4) Type "FOOTBALL" at the system prompt to begin play.
