- YATZEE FOR OS/2
- This is a game of dice, called Yatzee, for an OS/2 (version 1.2 or later)
- equipped computer. The program has the following highlights:
-
- - It is a "real" Presentation Manager program.
- - It has fullblown help-facilities.
- - It is best suited for a LAN, where every player plays on his own computer.
- - All players can watch the other participants play.
- - It has National Language Support.
- - It does not need a mouse.
- - It exploits Common User Access Multiple Document Interface.
- - It is well suited for demonstration of the advanced capabilities of OS/2
- such as multi-threading, LAN-support, dynamic linking, national language
- support and so on.
-

- INSTALLATION-INSTRUCTIONS
- This game of yatzee is aimed at Local Area Networks, although it is able to
- run on a stand-alone computer. It consists of two executable programs, one
- client-program (YATZYNET.EXE) and one server-program (YASERVER.EXE). In
- addition there are some Dynamic Link Libraries (YATZYxx.DLL where xx is
- a countrycode) and some help-files (YATZYxx.HLP where xx is a countrycode).
-
- To install the program, make a directory on the disk where you want to place
- it. Lets say you want to install the program on the C-disk in a directory
- called YATZYNET. Start an OS/2 Windowed Command Prompt and execute the
- following commands (all commands ends with pressing "enter"):
-
- md c:\yatzynet
-
- Now copy the program to the newly created directory. If you get it from a
- diskette enter this at the command prompt:
-
- copy a:\ c:\yatzynet
-
- RUNNING THE PROGRAM IN A STAND-ALONE ENVIRONMENT
- To test the installation, execute the program. Make the YATZYNET-directory
- the current directory by execution of the following commands:
-
- c:
- cd \yatzynet
-
- Start the server program by executing a start-command:
-
- start /c yaserver
-
- If everything is okay, the serverprogram starts in a new window on the desktop
- saying "Waiting for connection #0...". This window is now uninteresting and
- you may minimize it.
-
- You now start one (or more) instances of the game by entering:
-
- start /pm yatzynet
-
- This command is executed as many times as there are players. When the
- program is started, please follow the instructions in the window.
-
- RUNNING THE PROGRAM IN A LAN ENVIRONMENT
- If you want to play the game of Yatzee in an environment with a Local Area
- Network, which the program is aimed at, the server-program (YASERVER.EXE)
- must run on the LAN-server you are logged on to. When the server-program
- has started, the first player must be made known to the program within two
- minutes. The players must run the client-program (YATZYNET.EXE) on their
- individual computers. When this program is executed, it is important, that
- current directory is the one where the system was installed. This is also
- true if you put the game in a group-menu. Don't forget to mention the right
- directory in the "Working directory" entryfield.
