- OS/2 2.0 GA (CSD Level 02000 ONLY) Fix
- Most Recent VSVGA.SYS File
- April 21, 1992
- (Supplied by Bernie Thompson, IBM Boca)
-
- [This archive is being distributed as "vsvgafx1" (e.g. vsvgafx1.zip,
- vsvgafx1.zoo) and replaces the earlier "tsengfix" archive. Please
- delete the earlier archive containing a VSVGA.SYS file of size 64472.
- Future VSVGA.SYS replacements may be forthcoming and will bear similar
- archive names. CSDs, when released, will incorporate fixes.]
-
- "The Problem:
- On Tseng ET4000-based video cards with a batch # of TC6059AF or higher
- the video card goes out of sync entering a DOS or WINOS2 fullscreen.
- The problem ocurred because of an undocumented register that we wern't
- taking into account.
- Fixed on 4-8-92. VSVGA.SYS size of 64472
-
- "The Problem:
- Hitting ALT-HOME to window a full-screen VDM can produce a ring 0
- Trap E (system dead). We've only seen this very intermittantly, and
- mostly on low resource machines. Problem happens when PM requests
- the bitmap of the VDM's screen before the memory for the bitmap
- can be found/allocated.
- Fixed on 4-20-92. VSVGA.SYS size of 65016
-
- "Solution:
- To install the fix, simply replace the current VSVGA file in
- \OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS with the new file.
-
- [Shutdown and reboot for the change to take full effect.]
-
- "Good luck, and please pound on this fix.. if you find a video problem,
- go back to the old VSVGA and see if it also happens there.
-
- "You will still get the 'PM doesn't have enough memory' dummy message,
- but that is just a message from another chunk of code in OS/2 that can
- be ignored. After getting the message, you will have to click on the
- DOS session in the window list one more time for the image to be displayed. This and all future updates will include all past fixes
- in it. Therefore, it might be useful to have this posted as something like 'The most recent VSVGA.SYS,' as opposed to posting it as a fix
- for one problem or another.
