- Introducing Browse/2
- --------------------
-
- Browse/2 is a Presentation Manager program for viewing files in
- ASCII or hexadecimal dump format. It enables you to scroll
- forward and backward in a file and to pan long lines
- horizontally. You can select all of the file or part of the file
- and have it copied to the Presentation Manager clipboard or your
- printer. You can also search for specific words or phrases in
- the file and see them displayed in context.
-
- Browse/2 never alters the contents of a file. It shares the file
- you are browsing with other programs, unless another program
- demands exclusive access to the file.
-
- Installing Browse/2
- -------------------
-
- Copy the file BROWSE2.EXE to any directory on your disk. You may
- want to add Browse/2 to the Presentation Manager Start Programs
- menu (OS/2 1.1) or a group menu (OS/2 1.2).
-
- To do this, click on the menu window and select the Add command
- from the Program menu. Browse/2 does not require any special
- parameters or specific working directory.
-
- Starting Browse/2
- -----------------
-
- You have several ways to start Browse/2. From an OS/2 command
- line prompt, type:
-
- BROWSE2 (or) BROWSE2 filename
-
- The Browse/2 signon message uses the logo specifications set with
- the Presentation Manager Control Panel. If you have set a time
- limit for logo displays, the message will fade out when the time
- elapses. If you have not set a time limit or if you have

- suppressed logo displays, click on the Continue button or press
- the Enter key to begin operation when the logo appears.
-
- Once Browse/2 is running, you can click the mouse on the Help
- menu and select Extended Help, or press the F1 key for complete
- instructions.
-
- New Features
- ------------
-
- Version 1.3 gives you the ability to view files of any size.
- (Older versions were limited to the first 64K of large files.)
- This version also introduces support for the Presentation Manager
- clipboard. Since Browse/2 does not update the files it displays,
- you can copy to the clipboard, but you cannot paste clipboard
- data into the file you are viewing. The print feature is also
- new to Version 1.3. The Printer Setup item on the Options menu
- lets you specify printer control strings and other printing
- options. Postscript printers are not supported in this release.
-
- Version 1.2 featured improved scrolling, including faster
- operation and ability to view a file while scrolling with the
- slider. It also introduced a choice of fonts and font styles and
- sizes: system font, Courier, Helvetica, or Times Roman.
-
- Version 1.1 added screen colors based on preferences set with the
- Presentation Manager Control Panel. It also added more scrolling
- keys: Home and End for beginning and end of line and Ctrl+Home
- and Ctrl+End for beginning and end of file.
