  15.      This package contains OS/2 Presentation Manager drivers for ATI
  16. VGA Wonder video adapters, for the 800x600x256c and 1024x768x256c
  17. resolutions. They have been tested on IBM OS/2 1.3 and OS/2 2.0 (Level
  18. 307N).

  28.      Please read this file carefully before trying to install the PM
  29. drivers. If you don't, OS/2 could become corrupted forcing you to
  30. reinstall it.

  33. Technologies Inc. I have developed this driver during my spare time,
  34. and I am distributing it as FREEWARE. However I will greatly

  81.      Let's suppose you want to install the 800x600x256c driver. The
  82. file ATI800-8.DLL is a replacement for the OS/2 file DISPLAY.DLL.
  83.      Since there are lots of ATI Wonder models, a utility is supplied
  84. to accomodate the PM driver for your card and monitor. This utility,
  85. ATIPAT2.EXE, will patch the ATI800-8.DLL file. I recommend that you
  86. patch a copy of ATI800-8.DLL, keeping the original file.
  87.  
  88.       To install the PM driver complete the following steps:
  89.  
  90. 1) Uncompress the ATIPAT2.EXE and ATI800-8.DLL somewhere on your disk.
  91.  
  92. 2) Run ATIPAT2.EXE. The first argument is the name of the file to
  93.    patch, namely ATI800-8.DLL:
  94.  
  95.    C:> atipat2 ati800-8.dll
  96.  
  97.      ATIPAT2.EXE is a DOS program! It works fine in the DOS
  98. compatibility box (OS/2 1.3), or in a FULL SCREEN Dos session of OS/2
  99. 2.0. It you get a warning message saying that the driver will probably
  100. not work, you can still try it... If you have a problem with ATIPAT2,
  101. and if you know what are video registers, I have included the source
  102. code of ATIPAT2.EXE. If you make any modification to it, please send
  103. it back to me.

  105. 3) The file DISPLAY.DLL is usually in the \OS2\DLL directory of the
  106.    boot drive. But you CAN'T replace this file while OS/2 is running.
  107.    So boot DOS to replace it. The key point is to always keep a backup
  108.    of this file, in case the ATI driver would not work.
  109.  
  110.      So for instance:
  111.  
  112.    C:>CD \OS2\DLL
  113.    C:\OS2\DLL> REN DISPLAY.DLL DISPLAY.OLD
  114.    C:\OS2\DLL> COPY <patched ati800-8.dll file> DISPLAY.DLL
  115.  
  116.      Note: if you installed OS/2 on an HPFS partition, you will have
  117. to boot on the installation diskette. When the IBM logo appears, press
  118. ESCAPE to have access to an OS/2 command prompt. Then you will be able
  119. to see your HPFS disk, and replace the DISPLAY.DLL file.

  121. 4) Reboot your computer. If the PM screen doesn't show up in 800x600,
  122.    then there might be a problem with your ATI adapter... Replace the
  123.    DISPLAY.DLL file with the old display driver you backed up,
  124.    DISPLAY.OLD. Try to contact me to fix the problem.

  130. OS/2 2.0 users:
  131. ***************

  133.      OS/2 2.0 users should install SVGA support BEFORE installing the
  134. PM driver. Type SVGA ON in a full screen DOS session to do so (for
  135. further information, refer to the OS/2 V2 documentation). Then when
  136. you type SVGA STATUS (in a full screen dos session), OS/2 should
  137. report that you have an ATI chipset.
  138.      Warning: a 1024x768 background picture consumes 768Kb of main
  139. memory! I do not recommend such pictures if you don't have at least
  140. 8Mb of memory.

  147.      The 256-color drivers do not work on old ATI Wonder adapters
  148. (chip rev 1, without dual-page mode).
  149.      For the 1024x768x256 resolution, you need 1Mb on your video card.
  150.      These drivers are not real 2.0 drivers: no new icon pointers, no
  151. palette manager functions, etc. I am still waiting for IBM to provide
  152. me 2.0 sample source code...
