- ============================ README.TXT ======================================
-
- This file describes the features that have been added to DiskDupe and
- the bugs that have been fixed.
-
- ===============================================================================
-
- ============
- Version 3.31
- 8/12/91
- ============
-
- Faster Copies
- -------------
- DiskDupe will now sense how much data is on the disk and only write that
- much. It does this by looking for tracks that are filled with the F6 fill
- byte. When formatting or verifying, however, it will do the entire disk.
-
-
- ============
- Version 3.30
- 7/22/91
- ============
-
- Deleting Files
- --------------
- If you would like to delete an image file from within DiskDupe, use the
- File command from either the Source or Destination menus, highlight the
- file you want to delete and press <F4>.
-
- Read-Only Image Files
- ---------------------
- Once you create an image file, DiskDupe will now let you mark it as a
- read-only file.
-
- Interleaved Disks
- -----------------
- DiskDupe can now copy Unix disks that have an interleave of 3. The copies
- it makes, however, will have an interleave of 1.
-
- Step Rate Changes
- -----------------
- The stepping rates were changed slightly to work with a wide variety
- of drives at full speed.
-
- WD37C65, Dell Computer Problem
- -------------------------------
- The problems that occured on some computers that use the Western Digital
- WD37C65 controller (like some Dell and Northgate computers) have been fixed.
-
- 720k to 1.2Mb
- -------------
- Some computers had problems copying a 720k disk to a 1.2Mb disk. This
- has been fixed.
-
- DOS 5.0 Format /U
- -----------------
- When formatting a disk that will be used as a master disk, it is fastest
- to use the DiskDupe Format command with Format Option set to ALWAYS. If
- you are going to use the DOS 5.0 Format command, use the FORMAT /U option
- to erase the entire disk. This will allow DiskDupe to make faster copies
- of this disk.
-
-
- ============
- Version 3.24
- 5/23/91
- ============
-
- /DUP Pauses After Copying is Done
- ---------------------------------
- When using the /DUP command, DiskDupe will pause after copying is done.
-
- Message After Copying Changed
- -----------------------------
- The message that appears after copying is done was changed to
- "Press any key to return to menu."
-
-
- ============
- Version 3.23
- 5/1/91
- ============
-
- Non-Standard Controller Cards
- -----------------------------
- On some non-standard floppy controller cards, DiskDupe would not work.
- This was because they would reset the data rate when the drive motor was
- turned on. DiskDupe now always resets the data rate to work with these
- cards.
-
-
- ============
- Version 3.22
- 4/28/91
- ============
-
- "General Failure Error"
- -----------------------
- On some computers, when reading a disk right after DiskDupe, DOS would
- report a "General Failure Error" even though the disk was good. The
- workaround for this was to pull the disk out of the drive, type <Ctrl-C>
- several times and then put the disk back in. This has been fixed so that
- you no longer need to do this.
- However, if you do a DIR of a 360k disk and then use DiskDupe to copy
- a 1.2Mb disk, when you exit to DOS and do a DIR, you will get an error
- until you pull the disk out of the drive and put it back in.
-
- ============
- Version 3.21
- 4/16/91
- ============
-
- UNIX Disks
- ----------
- Fixed the problem that occured on some Unix disks with empty tracks
- at the front. DiskDupe would sometimes not copy them correctly unless
- these empty tracks were "dirtied" with data.
-
-
- ============
- Version 3.20
- 4/10/91
- ============
-
- Faster 3" Copies
- ----------------
- On 3" drives, increased stepping rate to copy disks faster. To support
- slower drives, it makes sure that the head is all the way in before
- writing to the disk.
-
- Standby Drive Command Line
- --------------------------
- Use "DISKDUPE DISK1 AB:" to access the StandBy drives from the command line.
-
- ============
- Version 3.13
- 3/5/91
- ============
-
- 386/33 and 486 Problems
- -----------------------
- On some 386/33 and 486 computers, DiskDupe would not recognize a disk in
- the drive or would behave erratically.
-
- 3" Drive Problems
- -----------------
- Some older 3" drives would occasionally have problems copying a disk.
- The step rate was slowed down to fix this.
-
- Faster 1.4Mb Copies
- -------------------
- Changed the format gap when copying a 1.4Mb disk from $6C to $5C to produce
- faster copies.
-
-
- ============
- Version 3.12
- 2/25/91
- ============
-
- 720k Disks in 1.4Mb Drive
- -------------------------
- On some 1.4Mb drives, you would have to setup the drive as a 720k drive
- to copy 720k disks.
-
- 1.2Mb Direct Conversions
- ------------------------
- Copying a 1.2Mb disk to 1.4Mb drive will not require that you set the 1.4Mb
- drive as a 1.2Mb drive.
-
- "Couldn't build menu 7"
- -----------------------
- On some computers DiskDupe would halt with this message when it first
- started.
-
- /C Ignored
- ----------
- If "DISKDUPE A: A: /C /DUP" was entered, anything after the /C was ignored
- Workaround was to use /C0, this has been fixed so /C is same as /C0
-
-
- ============
- Version 3.11
- 11/2/90
- ============
-
- /DUP Hang on Exit
- -----------------
- When using DiskDupe from the command line with a command like:
- DISKDUPE A: B: /C1 /DUP
- it would occasionally hang the computer on exit so that it was
- necessary to reboot it. This has been fixed.
-
- ===========
- Version 3.1
- 10/24/90
- ===========
-
- Auto Sensing
- ------------
- When copying disks manually, DiskDupe now senses when a disk has been
- inserted into the disk drive so that you no longer have to press
- <Enter> after the disk has been changed.
-
- Auto Sensing has a safety feature to prevent overwriting a disk that
- has been accidently left in the drive. Whenever DiskDupe is writing to
- a disk, it makes sure that any disk in the drive is taken out first. If
- you want to use the disk in the drive, take it out and re-insert it or
- press <Enter>.
-
- When using the A: & B: Standby Drive option, this safety feature is only
- turned on for the first disk.
-
- Auto Sensing keeps the drive light on all the time. When DiskDupe alerts
- you, it is safe to take out the disk.
-
- 5" to 3" Conversions
- --------------------
- DiskDupe now lets you copy a 5" disk to a 3" disk directly. The 3" disk
- will be formatted to look like a 5" disk so only half of the 3" disk
- will be used.
-
- Bad Disk Alarm
- --------------
- To make sure you don't accidently put a bad disk in the wrong stack when
- copying manually, DiskDupe will now sound an alarm whenever it encounters
- a bad disk. It will also tell you which drive the bad disk is in which is
- helpful when using the Standby Drive.
-
- XT Run Time Error 201
- ---------------------
- On some XT clones, DiskDupe would sometimes halt when it was first
- starting up with Run Time Error 201. This has been fixed.
