  13. Faster Copies
  14. -------------
  15. DiskDupe will now sense how much data is on the disk and only write that
  16. much. It does this by looking for tracks that are filled with the F6 fill
  17. byte. When formatting or verifying, however, it will do the entire disk.

  25. Deleting Files
  26. --------------
  27. If you would like to delete an image file from within DiskDupe, use the
  28. File command from either the Source or Destination menus, highlight the
  29. file you want to delete and press <F4>.

  31. Read-Only Image Files
  32. ---------------------
  33. Once you create an image file, DiskDupe will now let you mark it as a
  34. read-only file.

  36. Interleaved Disks
  37. -----------------
  38. DiskDupe can now copy Unix disks that have an interleave of 3. The copies
  39. it makes, however, will have an interleave of 1.

  41. Step Rate Changes
  42. -----------------
  43. The stepping rates were changed slightly to work with a wide variety
  44. of drives at full speed.

  46. WD37C65, Dell Computer Problem
  47. -------------------------------
  48. The problems that occured on some computers that use the Western Digital
  49. WD37C65 controller (like some Dell and Northgate computers) have been fixed.

  51. 720k to 1.2Mb
  52. -------------
  53. Some computers had problems copying a 720k disk to a 1.2Mb disk. This
  54. has been fixed.

  56. DOS 5.0 Format /U
  57. -----------------
  58. When formatting a disk that will be used as a master disk, it is fastest
  59. to use the DiskDupe Format command with Format Option set to ALWAYS. If
  60. you are going to use the DOS 5.0 Format command, use the FORMAT /U option
  61. to erase the entire disk. This will allow DiskDupe to make faster copies
  62. of this disk.

  85. Non-Standard Controller Cards

  87. On some non-standard floppy controller cards, DiskDupe would not work.
  88. This was because they would reset the data rate when the drive motor was
  89. turned on. DiskDupe now always resets the data rate to work with these
  90. cards.

  98. "General Failure Error"
  99. -----------------------
  100. On some computers, when reading a disk right after DiskDupe, DOS would
  101. report a "General Failure Error" even though the disk was good. The
  102. workaround for this was to pull the disk out of the drive, type <Ctrl-C>
  103. several times and then put the disk back in. This has been fixed so that
  104. you no longer need to do this.
  105.   However, if you do a DIR of a 360k disk and then use DiskDupe to copy
  106. a 1.2Mb disk, when you exit to DOS and do a DIR, you will get an error
  107. until you pull the disk out of the drive and put it back in.

  116. Fixed the problem that occured on some Unix disks with empty tracks
  117. at the front. DiskDupe would sometimes not copy them correctly unless
  118. these empty tracks were "dirtied" with data.

  128. On 3" drives, increased stepping rate to copy disks faster. To support
  129. slower drives, it makes sure that the head is all the way in before

  134. Use "DISKDUPE DISK1 AB:" to access the StandBy drives from the command line.

  143. On some 386/33 and 486 computers, DiskDupe would not recognize a disk in
  144. the drive or would behave erratically.

  148. Some older 3" drives would occasionally have problems copying a disk.
  149. The step rate was slowed down to fix this.

  151. Faster 1.4Mb Copies
  152. -------------------
  153. Changed the format gap when copying a 1.4Mb disk from $6C to $5C to produce
  154. faster copies.

  164. On some 1.4Mb drives, you would have to setup the drive as a 720k drive

  169. Copying a 1.2Mb disk to 1.4Mb drive will not require that you set the 1.4Mb
  170. drive as a 1.2Mb drive.

  174. On some computers DiskDupe would halt with this message when it first
  175. started.

  179. If "DISKDUPE A: A: /C /DUP" was entered, anything after the /C was ignored
  180. Workaround was to use /C0, this has been fixed so /C is same as /C0

  188. /DUP Hang on Exit
  189. -----------------
  190. When using DiskDupe from the command line with a command like:
  191. DISKDUPE A: B: /C1 /DUP
  192. it would occasionally hang the computer on exit so that it was
  193. necessary to reboot it. This has been fixed.

  200. Auto Sensing
  201. ------------
  202. When copying disks manually, DiskDupe now senses when a disk has been
  203. inserted into the disk drive so that you no longer have to press
  204. <Enter> after the disk has been changed.
  205.  
  206. Auto Sensing has a safety feature to prevent overwriting a disk that
  207. has been accidently left in the drive. Whenever DiskDupe is writing to
  208. a disk, it makes sure that any disk in the drive is taken out first. If
  209. you want to use the disk in the drive, take it out and re-insert it or
  210. press <Enter>.

  212. When using the A: & B: Standby Drive option, this safety feature is only
  213. turned on for the first disk.
  214.  
  215. Auto Sensing keeps the drive light on all the time. When DiskDupe alerts
  216. you, it is safe to take out the disk.
  217.  
  218. 5" to 3" Conversions
  219. --------------------
  220. DiskDupe now lets you copy a 5" disk to a 3" disk directly. The 3" disk
  221. will be formatted to look like a 5" disk so only half of the 3" disk
  222. will be used.
  223.  
  224. Bad Disk Alarm
  225. --------------
  226. To make sure you don't accidently put a bad disk in the wrong stack when
  227. copying manually, DiskDupe will now sound an alarm whenever it encounters
  228. a bad disk. It will also tell you which drive the bad disk is in which is
  229. helpful when using the Standby Drive.
  230.  
  231. XT Run Time Error 201
  232. ---------------------
  233. On some XT clones, DiskDupe would sometimes halt when it was first
  234. starting up with Run Time Error 201. This has been fixed.
