- This archive contains MINIX demonstration disks. To use them,
- download this archive to your computer (IBM PC, XT, AT, or 386). Then
- copy it bit for bit to a floppy disk (Instructions on how to do this
- follows). These files are exact disk images, and are only readable by
- the program 'rawrite'. After the file is copied to a floppy disk, the
- disk image file becomes a bootable diskette.
-
- To transfer the demo disk to a floppy, you need a program that can
- write a raw disk image. A program 'rawrite' has been provided for
- MS-DOS users. The executable (rawrite.exe), and the user manual
- (rawrite.doc) are provided in this archive.
-
- Basic instructions are:
- Combine the parts of this archive,
- UUdecode the file,
- Download the zoo archive to your IBM or compatible computer,
- Use the program zoo or booz to uncompress the archive,
- Format a disk that is bootable on your system,
- Note 1. I have tested this on a 5.25 and 3.5 Low density disks only,
- High density disks probably will work, but I havn't tested
- them.
- Type "rawrite" (don't include the quotes),
- When it asks you for the filename, type "demo_dsk.ibm", press return,
- The next question is the destination drive, type "a", press return,
- Note 1. It is possible to put the file on drive b, but in order to
- work, this disk must be bootable, and a is the bootable drive.
- This completed, restart your computer with the disk in the a drive.
-
- The demo user manual is available in PostScript form as manual.ps or as
- flat ASCII text as manual.txt. If you can print PostScript, use the
- former; if not, use the latter. The manual.txt file can be printed
- on any printer that can handle ASCII text (including Form Feed).
-
- The minix.inf file tells more about MINIX, describes the MINIX newsgroup,
- comp.os.minix, and the MINIX archives. It is a flat ASCII file.
-
- Once more, to avoid any confusion, MINIX is not public domain or shareware.
- It is copyrighted software. All the files in this directory, including
- the demo disks are also fully protected by copyright. The copyright owners
- hereby grant permission to copy and use the MINIX demo disks and other files
- in this directory only for the purpose of evaluating MINIX to see if it
- is suitable for your needs.

- The contents of this section have been changed to reflect what I have
- included in the MINIX package that was posted to C.B.I.P. I did NOT

- The crcs of most of the files in this directory are listed below.
- The crc is the MINIX replacement for sum. It gives a much stronger
- checksum. The source is in crc.c, in case you don't already have it.
