- Description
- -----------
-
- Prompt! is designed to do one thing, and one thing only.
- Change that damn prompt to something that can be of more use in
- the PC/DOS world! If any of you had a chance to catch the March
- edition of PC/Computing you should have seen the winners of the
- prompt contest. This program will not do anything that fancy, but
- will provide you with the basic steps in designing a prompt that
- will be more informative to your system.
-
- Step 1, Creating Prompt:
-
- Once in the 'Create New Prompt' area you can configure your
- prompt to up to 40 commands (aprx). You must select the items in
- order that you want them to appear. The prompt will be outputted
- exactly as you input it. So watch out for mistakes! Colorization
- of prompt is available also from the 'Create Prompt' menu. You can
- add color to your prompt to make it stand out. You must tell which
- color you wish to use before you choose a feature in the menu. The
- color you choose will remain the same until you change it again.
- When the prompt is saved the prompt is terminated with white to
- allow text you type in at the prompt to be white. Color
- meta-strings take up a lot of space in the environment. If you
- find yourself running out of space in DOS, refer to your DOS
- manual on how to change the size allocated by DOS for the
- environment settings.
-
- Step 2, Saving The Prompt:
-
- Once finished editing you can now go and save the prompt. You
- are prompted for a file name (first half only) to save it too. The
- extension is .BAT for all prompt files so that they may be run
- independently from any program. OPTIONALLY you may merge the
- prompt with your AUTOEXEC file. This way the prompt will be with
- you everytime you boot up.
-
-
- You are all done! Simple, wasn't it!
-
-
- The next version of prompt should see the ability to import
- graphic files (ANSI pics) into the prompt. This should be one of
- the final stages of Prompt! and hopefully this program will be
- used by many to help change that damn C> prompt to something else!
