  4. Welcome to Better Homes and Gardens Cool Crafts!
  5.  
  6. Please read the following information before you explore Cool Crafts.
  7.  
  8. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  9.  
  10. _   MPC system
  11. _   486SX or better
  12. _   4mb RAM required (8MB or more recommended)
  13. _   DOS 3.1 or later
  14. _   Microsoft Windows 3.1
  15. _   1.2mb free hard drive space
  16. _   MPC compatible CD-ROM drive
  17. _   SVGA display (256 colors), audio board, and mouse
  18. _   Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions 2.2 or later
  19.  
  20. COMMON MULTIMEDIA CONSIDERATIONS  
  21.  
  22. Please set your Windows Wallpaper, Background and Screen Saver to "<None>" before running this 
  23. program.  You can find these in the "Desktop" Control Panel.
  24.  
  25. Running other applications or TSRs simultaneously with Cool Crafts can cause various conflicts.  If you 
  26. do experience any problems, quit any other applications and end any tasks before you run Cool Crafts 
  27. again. (You can easily be do this by bringing up the Task List [Ctrl-Esc], selecting any entries other than 
  28. Program Manager, and choosing End Task for that selection.)
  29.  
  30. In addition to requiring 4 megabytes of built in RAM, we recommend that you have at least 6,000kb of 
  31. free memory.  To check the amount of free memory currently available to Windows, select the 'Help' menu 
  32. in Program Manager and select 'About Program Manager'.  At the bottom of the information screen, the 
  33. 'Memory' will be listed (in kilobytes).  If this number is below 6000kb, you will need to turn on or increase 
  34. the size of the Virtual Memory swap file.  Please refer to your Windows manuals for instructions on how 
  35. to do this.

  38. INSTALLING COOL CRAFTS
  39.  
  40. From Program Manager, access File Manager.  Click on the letter representing your CD-ROM drive--
  41. we'll use 'd:' for this discussion.

  43. 1. Find the setup.exe file in the d: drive and double-click on it. This will begin the installation program.
  44.  
  45. 2. Click 'Yes' when asked if you want to continue the installation.
  46.  
  47. 3. Click on the 'Install Cool Crafts' button.
  48.  
  49. 4. You will then be informed that the installation will make changes to your system files.  Click 'Yes' to 
  50. continue.

  52. 5. You will then be told that Cool Crafts will be installed into the C:\CRAFTS directory.  If this is okay, 
  53. click 'Yes' to continue.
  54.  
  55. 6. Before the Cool Crafts installation is complete, it will check to see if you have Video for Windows 
  56. Version 1.1 or later already installed on your system.  If you do not, the Video for Windows installation 
  57. program will begin.

  59. 7. Once the installation is complete, you will be asked to restart Windows.  Click the 'Yes' button to restart 
  60. Windows.

  62. 5. To start Cool Crafts once you are back in Windows (Program Manager), open the 'Multicom 
  63. Publishing' program group and double-click on the Cool Crafts icon.

  66. TROUBLE-SHOOTING
  67.  
  68. In our installation program we have included some tools to assist you in case you run into difficulties.  If 
  69. you do run into problems trying to run Cool Crafts, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.  This time, however, you 
  70. can select 'Info' or 'MPC' to help you determine what the problem may be.

  72. -Video Problems-
  73. If you experience visual problems with Cool Crafts, switch your video display to 640x480 resolution with 
  74. 256 colors.  (Refer to your video card manual for instructions on how to do this.)  If you are already using
  75. the 640x480/256 color mode, contact the video card manufacturer to make sure you have the most recent 
  76. version of their video display driver.

  78. -Audio Problems-
  79. If you experience audio problems with Cool Crafts, you can test your sound card with the MPC testing 
  80. tools on the installation program (See 'Trouble-shooting' above).  If you are unable to play a midi file or a 
  81. wave file, you may have a problem with your sound card driver installation.  If this is the case, refer to the 
  82. manual for your sound card.

  89. location nearby your computer system and with as many details about the problem as possible.
